Calling all Cooks! - bunee's Blog - Tehachapi News

I have been wanting to learn how to cook and I'm wondering if there's anyone here in Tehachapi that would be willing to hold a cooking class? Anyone else interested in learning?

Local Big Business...

I thought I was being overly sensitive about the way I was treated by an employee

who was reluctantly helping me, but as my shopping experience continued for what seemed like an eternity; the rude and condescending behavior towards me compounded.

I'm not a difficult or hard to please customer, and I'm always very polite.

I watched the only person who was working in the paint section for a few moments...a woman who had an attitude. It was clear to me that she was

P'd off about something. She ignored me for a few minutes and then walked

over to the counter .

The scenario went something like this:

I asked this woman (employee ) if I could get some paint mixed. She walked me

over to the paint section to show me the paint I would need. I proceded to drag

three gallons of paint to the counter. She promptly scolded me and said, "don't bring the paint over here, I will do it because you got the wrong kind".

I went to grab the paint and take it back, when she snapped, "don't touch it, I'll take it back!"

It was like the guilt trip or reverse psychology your parents pull to manipulate the situation...

"Oh God" , I thought to myself ..."what a nag". I really didn't want to talk to her or ask her another question, but there wasn't anyone else around.

Okay...next question: "Ummm, I need a 5 gallon bucket of paint and I need it

this color". Nag replies, " We don't mix those dark colors in a 5 gallon bucket".

I say, " what?". She says, " we don't carry the tint for those, and we don't have

enough room".

Okay....Let me get this straight. Practically every City in the U.S. has one of these

gigantic stores with a gigantic parking lot, but Not enough room to carry "tint" for

5 gallons of paint? Give me a break. (I was thinking this, and never said it out loud.)

There were many things I really wanted to say out loud, but I'm guessing I would've quickly been escorted out once I unleashed other thoughts that I don't dare type.

She continued to be condescending and proceded to tell other employees walking by how to do their jobs. I knew then that it wasn't just a bad day for her, but a permanent character flaw.

This scenario triggered a similar experience I had while checking out in the garden department one day.... I guess Big Business can still make Big Money WITHOUT treating their customers with respect.

I won't go back...I can buy paint somewhere else...and bypass the drama.

Where are the rentals with an option to buy?

I've been watching closely for a home that we can rent with an option to buy.

Two short years ago we qualilfied for a home loan, and now we're having a hard time qualifying although our credit is the same and... we now have a higher income.

We've been playing the waiting game as the brokers snub us and push us back another year, maybe longer?

I havent' been able to find many ads online or in the newspapers offering lease/options in Tehachapi.

The Rental Agencies are in the business of Managing properties, and the Realtors are in the business of Selling properties. They have something in common...neither has any interest in helping out in the" rent to own" category.

Who can blame them? That's like volunteering time.

Rent is getting more expensive as the demand becomes higher. Our economy went through a recession about ten years ago...the gas prices went up, people lost their homes to foreclosure and it was cheaper to purchase a home than it was to rent one! Some people were fortunate enough to buy low and get through without losing much.

It seems that there must be owners that are willing to rent and give the renter an option to purchase the home with a one to two year lease.

I've seen many newer homes that have been sitting empty, and it seems that it would be beneficial for owners and potential renters/buyers to find a way to connect and possibly bypass high fees for the middle man.

Nursing Program for Tehachapi

I know that there are a few medical courses such as medical terminology and a certified nurses assistant class offered in Tehachapi and Mojave. I'm currently on the "waiting list" for one of them.

I wasn't planning on building a career as a nurses assistant, and would like to go onto an LVN program.

To get straight to my point, I'm looking at one to two years full time school and training for a nursing license. It's approximately $20,000 to attend vocational nursing school) No time for a day job.I will be commuting to Lancaster or Bakersfield....more gas money.$

So, I'm wondering....hoping that Tehachapi can offer a nursing program right here in our town.

Then, when the City decides to stop dragging their feet on the development of our new hospital, we'll have local residents who will be trained to work there.

It seems somewhat 'backward" that Wal Mart gets the "OKAY."to move in, but a new Hospital for our community gets shot down. I'm guessing that whoever makes the most "Revenue" gets pushed to the top of the list, huh?

I guess that subject is for another time.

I'm a singer and would like to join a singing group. The Summit Singers is the only group that I know of in Tehachapi. Does anyone know about the group or any
other group who practices locally?

Do You Have An Eating Disorder?

I have an eating disorder, and I need help. I've been to weight watchers, nutri system, taken prescribed weight loss pills, and fat burners.
I attended therapy with a psychologist every week for over a year, and attended nutritional classes to learn how to eat healthy. I like to exercise and stay active
but I'm still dangerously over weight. Most recently I've attended seminars for the gastric bypass surgery. This procedure is life threatening, and quite frankly it is probably the most extreme decision a person can make in desperation.
The only thing that I haven't tried is joining a group where people who have issues like mine can sit down and talk .
I am certified as a peer/mentor counselor and would like to start a group where
people can come and talk together. It would be free and completely confidential.
If you or you know of anyone that would benefit from this kind of group, please contact me and we will put something together. Bunee.
A New Election Year...

Republican or Democrat...Conservative or Liberal. Who will you vote for, and how
will a new presidency change the USA? These questions keep circulating around in my head. If I had a way to see into the future, I don't think I would look.
I'm not a democrat, and I'm not a Republican either. I don't know
what I am but I think I'm registered as an "independent". (whatever that means.)
We have several presidential candidates this time around and I have every intention of doing my homework before the election.
What does a Republican President mean for our country? Do the troops Stay in the Middle East to establish a democracy while our democracy goes in the toilet?
What does a Democratic President do while stepping into a war?
Does he send the troops home and Up security on the U.S.?
I remember the day that the Twin Towers were bombed, I don't think anyone can
ever forget that day. I was very scared, and I was sitting on the West Coast!
I saw the terror on the peoples faces as I watched my T.V.
From that moment I realized how stupid I had been to think that we are safe and protected with the help of our government. It's disturbing to think that anybody can
walk over the boarders into our country and continue to murder, steal, mooch,
and slap us in the face every chance they get. Our government is ultimately responsible for this; So... who do we vote for?

What services or activities do we really need around here?

I've always wanted to run my own business, but different places have different needs.
What kind of services or activities does Tehachapi really need?
We don't have a beauty supply, but we have 100 hair salons...!
If there's a beauty supply around here I wish someone would tell me about it.

Everybody's getting exited about having a Del Taco, and I'm wondering why
it's such a big deal? I guess because everyone is sick of the other
fast food places around here.

I know we have a dry cleaner, and a laundry mat that launders clothes over by Henry's, but does anyone know what they charge? I think it can be quite expensive$
I would be interested in opening a small laundry business myself.
I think we should also have a place where families can go to play pool, video games ,bowling etc....which could also be a large facility for parties and wedding receptions.
I know there's an old bowling ally that's now closed up on Tehachapi Blvd.
I wonder why no one has tried to get it up and running again?

How about a seasonal drive- in movie theater ? I don't see drive- in theaters
anymore, what happened?

I think that if we had more activities that are family oriented, and services that help people lessen their work load, citizens of Tehachapi will spend less time and money traveling out of town.

Anybody out there have a house for sale?

We have been renting for almost two years (since we moved to Tehachapi) and we'd like to buy a house. We have another year before we'll be ready to purchase
a home, but we'd like to find a "rent to own" or lease/option as we're wanting to get into a home soon. My husband and I have secure employment, and have no debt with the exception of one student loan. Here's what we need: 3 bedrooms 2 baths,
1400SF or a little bigger. $250k would be the maximum purchase price for us.
We would like to live in Town or the Golden Hills area. Please let me know if anyone has information that might be useful.
