URGENT: Pound Bound Hounds Need a Home! - Animal Welfare in Tehachapi - caninecreek's Blog - Tehachapi News

A gentleman who did animal recue in Texas recently moved to California City and brought 6 of his dogs and a number of cats with him. After buying a home and living there for a few months, he is now being told he can't have this many dogs and is being given 30 days to find homes or they will be taken from him by California City Animal Control.
These adorable dogs are Dachshund / Basset Hound mix. This mix is sometimes refer too as "wasset hounds". The three dogs are litter-mates, and are 2 1/2 years old. Following are their descriptions from the current owner: If you can help or know someone who can, please call or e-mail him. If you have a home for any or all of these dogs, call Warner at (760)812-0477, or send him at email warcourt@yahoo.com.
"They were raised around horses, cats, dogs, goats, chickens and many childern (we used to run a 4-H and a youth horse riding camp). They are all completely house broken and well socialized. Below I will provide a description of each individual dog.
Bullet is our male Wasset. He's neutered and current on shots. He's extremely affectionate and mellow. He loves kids, dogs and cats. He is always following our 2 years old son around the house and yard. Our older son taught Bullet some agility training. He would make a great pet for any type of family; he's happy to be around active kids, or would be just as happy being with a laid-back retired adult. He is completely house trained. He also loves just to lay on the couch or bed and sleep most of the day. He is completely house-broken.
Powerbar is a female Wasset. She's current on shots and spayed. She is extremely doscile. She'd be the perfect girl for any family with kids and other animals. She is a sweet soul. She is completely house trained. She always listens and loves to sleep in the sun. Like Bullet, she would be happy with an active family or a laid-back family. She is very adaptable and easy going.
Havest is a female Wasset. She's current on shots and spayed. She is extremely doscile. She'd be the perfect girl for any family with kids and other animals. She can be somewhat shy but is extremely sweet. She is completely house trained. Once she gets to know you, she will be your best and most loyal friend. Again, she would be happy with an active family or a laid-back family."

Feb 20, 2008 at 04:02 PM : I disagree....I love...

I disagree....I love dogs and cats and all animals...but I would not want a new neighbor to move in next to my house with 6 dogs and several cats. No matter how well trained the dogs are they will still occasionally start to bark at the same time--like when a siren goes off. Also, the smell of all the animals in a back yard would waff over to my house not matter how fanatic you are picking up the doo doo. That's why this limits were enacted.

CATS RULE!!!!!!

Feb 20, 2008 at 09:02 PM : Well, I can...

Well, I can vouch for this dog owner... that the house and yard were SPOT-LESS. If I had not seen the dogs with my own eyes, I would never believe there was 1 there, much less 6. I never saw or smelled anything, and never heard a single bark. This family is doing an amazing job with these animals, and I am so sad they have to let some of their "family" go. We adopted Bullet this afternoon. He's a wonderful dog. It's bittersweet though, knowing that even though we are thrilled to have him, their children were crying when we took him home.

TK - Yes, I agree the laws are wrong. But, I hope the other 2 dogs find homes. They are really sweet, wonderful dogs.

With 6 dogs and several cats piddling in the yard, after a while the order just kinds of builds up. People who have dogs sometimes don't even notice the smell any more. It's like having 6 ponies in your back yard, You make pick up the poop a few times a day but after a while it just plain smells horsey. Not that the smell of horses is bad.....I kinda like the smell. But my neighbors didn't. This is one of the reasons for limits...but never the less I do feel bad for them. It's like losing a member of the family
