Dog Park Opens Tomorrow!

Tehachapi's First Dog Park: Opens Saturday, September 27th

We are pleased to announce that, after nearly four years of work and planning, Tehachapi will soon have it's first off-leash dog park.

Grand Opening: Saturday, September 27th at 10am

The Dog Park Committee is in the final stages of preparation, and the park amenities have been purchased, including trees, benches, water fountains, pick-up bag dispensers, etc. The dog park will open to the public on Saturday, September 27th at 10am. Goodie bags will be given away to the first 20 dog owners (1 per family) at the grand opening on the 27th. A limited number of Dog Park T-shirts, with the logo shown at left, are available for $15 each. Proceeds from the dog park t-shirt sales will help to pay for the park, and provide more amenities. They are available for sale at Canine Creek from 10am to 6pm daily. The t-shirts will also be on sale at the dog park during the grand opening on Saturday starting at 10am. Hope to see you there!

THE TEHACHAPI VALLEY RECREATION AND PARKS DISTRICT (“TVRPD”) IS NOT RESPONSIBLE AND SHALL HAVE NO LIABILITY FOR THE ACTS OR OMMISIONS OF INDIVIDUALS OR THEIR ANIMALS. INDIVIDUALS USING THE DOG PARK ENTER AT THEIR OWN RISK.

THIS PARK IS NOT MONITORED BY SECURITY. In case of emergency please call 911, Animal Control, and then, TVRPD at (661) 822-3228.

Individuals using the Dog Park are subject to the Rules and Regulations of the TVRPD.

Vicious animals will not be tolerated in the Dog Park. TVRPD reserves the right to exclude any vicious animal as defined and outlined in its Rules and Regulations.

Each individual entering the Dog Park is limited to two animals per visit. All animals must be under the control of the respective handler at all times.

Animals entering the Dog Park must be in good health with all proper vaccinations.

Animals must be kept on a leash while entering and exiting the Dog Park. Animals are not permitted to be off leash outside of the fenced Dog Park.

Individuals must immediately remove all respective animal waste and deposit the same in the designated receptacles.

Female animals in heat are strictly prohibited.

Animals under the age of four (4) months are strictly prohibited.

Children under forty-eight inches (48”) tall are prohibited from entering the Dog Park. Children under the age of sixteen (16) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

Individuals using the Dog Park are prohibited from smoking and consuming alcoholic beverages or food while in the fenced Dog Park area.

Individuals are asked to be considerate of other individuals and animals while in the Dog Park and to respect the grounds and surroundings.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony: Friday, September 19th at 2pm
Public Grand Opening: Saturday, September 27th at 10am

The Dog Park Committee is in the final stages of preparation, and many of the park amenities have been purchased, including trees, benches, water fountains, pick-up bag dispensers, etc. As of September 16th, the fencing installation is about 75% complete. The dog park is scheduled to open on Saturday, September 27th at 10am. Goodie bags given away to the first 20 dog owners (1 per family) at the grand opening on September 27th.

To announce the new dog park, the TVRPD and Tehachapi Chamber of Commerce will be holding a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, September 19th at 2pm. The public is invited to attend the ribbon cutting, but no dogs will be allowed in the park until the official public opening on September 27th.

A limited number of Dog Park Grand Opening T-shirts, with the logo shown at left, will be available for $15 each. Email us to reserve your t-shirt.

Dogs in the Attic (Pet Abuse... Again.)

This past weekend we witnesses yet another despicable case of animal abuse in Tehachapi. I hate sharing these stories, but they need to be told. Situations like this should not be swept under the rug, no matter how uncomfortable they are.

One of our customers is building a new house and it's still under construction. About two weeks ago, someone dumped off some Chihuahuas to fend for themselves. They were seen running around outside, but no one was able to catch them. Then, they somehow managed to get up into the attic of the house under construction, where no one could reach them. The dogs began using fiberglass insulation as bedding. The family tried to catch the dogs for several days, but it took some cat traps with food to accomplish that. One dog was even dry walled into a room and he dug his way back out, hurting his paws and nails.

The adult female dog was brought in to our shot clinic this past Saturday, but the vet said she was too thin and dehydrated to risk shots. The third dog, an un-neutered male (probably dad) was caught on Sunday and brought into the store. He was scared to death and it took me an hour to coax him out of the crate. He had skin irritation from the fiberglass, ticks, drywall in/under his nails from digging at it, and stunk like you-know-what. We gave him a bath and he's now at a foster home.

If anyone is interested in adopting these dogs, they will be available shortly through A Safe & Secure Rescue. Dumping defenseless animals to fend for themselves is not only immoral, it is a crime punishable by law. No matter how dire your circumstances, there are always options to abandonment. Our website lists numerous organizations you can call, so there are NO excuses for this behavior. If none of these entities are available to help, it's much kinder to euthanize a pet than subject it to pain, suffering and an unknown death.

The following information is a cross-post from the Tehachapi Humane Society. If you remember the recent case where dog and cats (dead and alive) were taken from the home of an animal hoarder, that's what this is referring to. If you are able to help in ANY way -- fostering, adoption, money, anything! -- please contact Sharon at the Tehachapi Humane Society at kcornelison@bak.rr.com. With NO government run animal shelter in Tehachapi, our private rescourses are tapped out, and we need help from the public. Your assistance and compassion are greatly appreciated. Susie

FROM THE TEHACHAPI HUMANE SOCIETY...

"The THS has trapped seven cats and reports from a neighbor said Animal Control Trapped seven and this same neighbor took one. We were told there is at least one maybe two more cats so that would be a total of 17 unless we come up with more. These cats were all indoor cats and we can't say much about their behavior or friendliness because the trauma of all the different people in and out of the house has them truly scared to death yet I never heard any growl and none spit or tried to scratch as they were put in our cars and then transferred from traps to cages. They are all adults and as far as we know have been spayed or neutered as we never found any kittens and Deborah had all the dogs fixed for sure. We don't think they are sick as was first reported to us. I saw no runny noses or eyes, none seem lethargic and I didn't notice any runny BM signs at the house.

We have no foster homes for these cats and no prospects of permanent homes at this time. I have them at my house, but can't keep them here much beyond Monday or Tuesday as this will play havoc with my three dogs and four cats. If you or anyone you know might feel they can give these poor cats a second chance please contact me. They are in desperate need of some loving care. Sharon"

My friends and I were on a beer run and noticed that the cases were discounted 10%. Since it was a big party, we bought 2 cases. The cashier multiplied 2 times 10% and gave us a 20% discount.

I couldn't find my luggage at the airport baggage area, so I went to the lost luggage office and told the woman there that my bags never showed up. She smiled and told me not to worry because she was a trained professional and I was in good hands. 'Now,' she asked me, has your plane arrived yet?'

While working at a pizza parlor I observed a man ordering a small pizza to go. He appeared to be alone and the cook asked him if he would like it cut into 4 pieces or 6. He thought about it for some time before responding. 'Just cut it into 4 pieces; I don't think I'm hungry enough to eat 6 pieces.'

Livestock (Llama & Sheep) - Free to Good Home

Two llamas and a Dorset ewe sheep, raised as pets, need a new home due to a relocation. They have all just been groomed, and are friendly. The lady who owns them is moving out of the area and cannot take them with her.
