I MISS TRAVELING!!!! It makes me want to cry! Maybe when my son can be in his car seat for longer than an hour without going into a screaming fit, we'll travel more...

And it's just so killer- I got an ad from the company I used to drive for, promising 45 cents a mile for experienced teams. Just killer.

hmm...this is an interesting one, I had a baby when i was 17 so i missed...my senior year in HS, the prom...grad night..but i wouldnt trade it. I got to see my son go to the prom that was totally cool. Now I am a grandma and I have a son who is 15. So he is pretty "self contained". I am free to do what I want now and I tell you San Diego is a beautiful place to be when you need something to do. I do miss Tehachapi. I miss the smell of fireplaces, snow days from school, black outs ( I always have candles and oil lamps), apple season, cutting down our Christmas tree...man I really do miss those 4 seasons.

I grew up North of here. There is a place called Springville and up above Springville is "Coffee Camp" (God I love coffee) mmm, anyway, when I was growing up my parents would take us up there and then we became teen agers, we would take ourselves up there. A river running through the mountains. The water had shallow areas to walk through and deep, cold water to swim in.

In order to get the river we would have to travel and jump from rock to rock to get to it. There were several different swimming holes up there that we would visit. Rocks we could jump off of, rocks that the water ran through till they were smooth and we could use it as a slide, ropes off of trees that we could swing off of into the river. Boy, I miss those days. Now.....I'm old and jumping from rock to rock and off rocks and down slides and off ropes...OMG, those days are definitely over for me and I do miss them terribly.

Jewels I've been told you can always find something to do in San Diego. My bff used to live there and I have relatives that live there now. I have always said I would LOVE to live at the beach. I'm a water child. Love the water. Swimming, boogie boarding, body surfing, jet skiing, you name it I love it! I want to learn to surf so BAD, but I think I'd suck because I'm a klutz. Ha ha! I scare my husband every time we go to the beach. He's always nagging I go out to far! I think he's watched Jaws one two many times. :) Can you tell?...........I miss the beach! lol I'm afraid if I lived there the appeal may die though. The thought alone saddens me.

For most of my life no power also meant no water which always made me really want to use water.Then when I was a struggling single parent it meant that I had had to chose between food for kids and the power bill so it meant major upsettedness.

I really enjoy San Diego too,but would also miss so much about Tehachapi if I left.It's too bad that we can't send you a Tehachapi package full of what you miss so that you could still enjoy it away from here.

I miss playing Yahtzee with my family as a child....we were all together. I miss friends. I miss going to Cues and Brews. I miss going to Domingo's for happy hour. I miss the connection that our "group" had. Don't get me wrong I don't think I would want to redo those years, but I am glad they happen. I miss my friend Erin. She just stopped talking to me for no reason. I know I had to have done something but it's been 2 years and no response from here. I even feared she was dead, but no death records. I miss my freedom. Don't get me wrong, I love kids more than anything in this world, but sometimes I just would like to be able to get into my car and go. Without any repercussions. But that is what be an adult is all about....responsibility. I miss sledding. I miss working. I miss being carefree. Sorry, not myself today.

Countygirl,you should take lessons anyway,so what if you're a klutz!You'd be a happy klutz!Put your husband on kid-duty to keep him occupied and just go for it.If you wait too long you just wake up one day and realize that now you're an old klutz who still really wants to learn to surf and that it's now or never.Plus,when you're older,all the fun stuff that you try leaves you hurting afterwards!

Yahtzee, scrabble and backgammon used to keep me entertained for hours. A lot of hands of pinochle (wow, don't even think I would remember how to play). My sister and I would have marathon game of Monopoly. Stay up all night to finish a game. It can be a really long game if you don't cheat your way through it. Oh, and Barbies, God I loved to play Barbies. Oh, and Georgie, he was my babydoll when I was little. I carried him around with me until his arm broke off. I think I was kind of "older" before I outgrew him.... : ^ { Now I feel kind of like a wierdo sharing some of this stuff. Don't mind me, I have terrible tummy trouble going on today.

I loved to read ( I miss this)and I actually (OK Don't make fun of me P6) used to pretend I rode horses all the time. I would even gallop around with a stick as my crop. lol My dad used to sell firewood during the winters. We would build homes and little communities out of the wood......lol Sometimes we'd go up there and someones house would be gone...we'd just rebuild. :)

I never really got into dolls or barbies. I was more of a tomboy I think, BUT then again I loved makeup and I was a cheerleader!

GINGER~that was the nicest thing you just said...box up some of my favorite Tehachapi things...it almost made me cry...Can you please box up my son, his wife and my grandson and send them my way? (they live in Teh). My heart has a big empty hole in it because I am not with them. I left Tehachapi and never looked back (I do come up once a month to visit). My son works at Kohnen's. He used to be the sandwich guy Chris is his name. Now he is baking. I can never go back to Tehachapi to live...to much water under the bridge~and the bridge simply washed out for me. I am much happier and my life is amazing. But it doesnt hurt any less being away from my doodle (grandson). I lived in Tehachapi for 28 years. From the time I was 12 until 3 years ago (i am 43 now). So my whole life (teen and adult) was spent there. Really if I thought I could come back and be as successful as i am now i would. My little doodle should have his grandma there to love. But he has the rest of his family so I am grateful for that.

Colitas...Cues and brews? What about 220 club remember that one? I bet I know you. Do you remember Goofy's?

Jewels, my heart breaks for you. If my kids lived where I grew up, I would never be able to live there either. Same circumstance. My mother and my 2 sisters still live there and go visit, but I don't drive around. Too, much "yuck" that might jump out and get me when I'm not looking. I'm glad you can make monthly visits. I'd like to see you around town. Me and bigdog could hug you!!!!!

Countygirl~my mom does live there. She just moved back there from Vegas. I am not related to Matthew my son is. Let me break it down for you. Matthew was my youngest sons (Kevin's) cousin. Kevins dad and Mattew's mom (Renee) are brother and sister. My little doodle is my son Chris' baby. So I am the paternal grandma. My doodle lives with my son and daughter in law and he has his maternal grandma there and 2 great grandmas

Matthew's parents took care of Kevin on several occasions when I was not able. Kevin and Matthew were very close. In the summer of 2004, Kevin rode with Matthew's mom and her two boys to Steubenville OH to pick Matthew up. They stayed with him for about 3 weeks and then they all drove back together.

Oh and by the way...without Matthew's parents raising Kevin when I wasnt able...I dont know that I would still have him. I am truly grateful for everything they have done.

I miss trick or treating without worrying that my neighbours may have put razor blades/needles in the treats. I miss being able to trust strangers. I miss walking without looking over my shoulder-perhaps it truly never was that safe and we just weren't so well informed, but I miss that feeling of safety that not knowing provides. I miss the value of the printed/written word. I miss lazy summer days with my toes in the water. I miss the days when friday meant I had the whole weekend to have fun instead of running errands/paying bills etc. I miss how simple everything seemed when we were younger. I miss being young and careless.

being able to stay up after midnight and still get up in the morning

I understand the big empty hole in the heart and wish that I could send them.I also understand the small town issues and the labels that just won't go away no matter how much you grow or change or succeed.At least you get to see them once a month,though leaving them must break your heart each time.Olivias right about the "yuck" though,it sneaks in and starts eating on you if you expose yourself to it.Getting out and starting over is really hard and you have obviously succeeded.Remember to be proud of yourself!You are a great example to others!

I have small kids and I miss being able to travel too. Whether it's a quick weekend road trip or a fantasy vacation involving a quick jet to NY and dinner in Paris (I said Fantasy!) it's just too exhausting/expensive with little ones.
I miss camping, just another form of travel but dirtier and without the room service and a spa.
I really miss quiet times reading an entire book in one sitting.
I miss the beach and sunburns (just the minor ones).
I miss my girlfriends who live out of state and I miss my best friend, my Dad, who I prefer to believe now lives on in a state of grace.
I miss being a size 3 that could give every man in the room whiplash as I entered or exited.
I miss one particular ex boyfriend (my husband doesn't blog!) but not his bad habits, including his penchant for Jack Daniels and forgetting to come home on a regular basis.
I miss all the things colitas mentioned and I think that means that sometimes, I miss being me. Especially when we "responsible adults" scramble so hard and so often that we leave our fun and carefree selves behind.
Thanks countygirl, jewels, colitas, olivia and all of you who shared. I feel more like myself already.

Sushisoo- I totally can relate to the vacationing with the little ones. As wonderful as it is and as much as I love making the memories together...it's like I need a vacation to recoop from the vacation we were just on! :)

I miss being smaller....ALTHOUGH I was never a size 3!! I was really tall with broad shoulders! Sometimes I wish I was petite, and then I realize I'm pretty happy with what I was given. :) Although I never really realized "what I had" until it was gone! Sad but true!

Ahhh, hoochie mama clothes. I was 25 size 5, I had a pair of those zip around pants. Does anyone remember those. They zip from the back, right on under to the front. Let me tell you.....I went over to my sister and her husbands house one day, wearing those pants. Must have looked pretty darned good. She caught me off side and asked me never to wear those pants to her house again.

jewels, yeah, cues and brews hold many memories for me. Goofy's sounds familiar, but I am not sure...some of my memory is a bit hazy from back then. We would also go to South Fork alot. But after cues and brews shut down, South Fork started to change. Too much hip-hop and too many fights. But you could have seen us many of nights walking back and forth between the two. We would start out at Domingos and go from there. It was a time where people looked out for each other...even if you just knew them from the bar. Things changed.

Colitas, you just reminded me again of my Dad! When I was 15 he would actually help me zip up my pants with pliers! I guess he figured if I needed so much help getting them on they were likely to stay on! He would also help me take off my toenail polish so I wouldn't mess up my fingernail polish. What a guy. The best choice my mother ever made.

You tall girls can weigh 170 lbs and look really good, me, I'm 5' 3" on a good day, and 170 lbs well makes me "STUMPY" THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!! Yeah, I never really felt small back then, boobs weren't big enough, butt too big. My 18 year old daugher is a size 4 and she is so tiny. I was smaller than her at that age and I never felt small. That damn warped perception.
