Space Heaters??? - Wake up Tehachapi !! - countygirl's Blog - Tehachapi News

So I just got off the phone with the lovely people at Edison. I called them after seeing my bill which (for the second time) had doubled. They told me the reason for this was because I used space heaters. Funny thing is we use space heaters all the time in our kids rooms. This is the first time my bill has doubled (actually tripled from this time last year.) My mother just had to contact them also. Her bill had quadrupled. There was of course a problem and they reimbursed her. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this sudden rise in their electric bill or is it just me??

Mine went down for whatever reason. My gas bill, however, is pretty high. That corresponds to the short period of time we ran out of wood for the stove though.

What I can't figure out is the billing cycle for utilities. Why isn't it just monthly?

My electric bill hasn't changed much (if it has it hasn't been enough to notice), although to be honest the electric bills in California are rediculous compared to other parts of the country. Friends back east are irate and flabbergasted if their electric bills are over $90. ;)

My propane bill, however, has been running roughly twice as much as the same times last year and its scary high. Its approaching half my mortgage payments! And this is with me keeping everyone freezing with the thermostat at 62 and burning wood in our fireplace. I wish natural gas lines ran near enough to my house to connect. :( Even oil would be way cheaper. The last propane bill from Benz was showing $3.07 a gallon! Ack.

Madkow- our gas bill has risen to but that's pretty normal for us during this time of year.

Ok, so we are not the only ones!! We've noticed a HUGE increase... and can not figure it out. We have lived here 3 years, so we could compare our usage for the same month last year, and year before. They were consistant for 2005, 2006... the about November 2007 BAM! Huge Huge usage. Then again in December. Our bill for January was over $200. We average $110-$125 in the summer running the A/C at 76. What gives?

We just bought a gas dryer to see if that helps. We do tons of laundry.... so the electric dryer was probably costing a lot... but you would think we'd still have high bills in the summer too?

Oh, I know propane is worse. Been there, done that. My parents have a rather large house in BVS and spent over $600 in one month. OUCH.

Sunshine...yours went up at the exact same time ours did. Your numbers are pretty close to ours to. Funny thing is it actually went down $20 this month from last month which is odd considering it's been colder what with the snow and all lately. Makes what she was telling me even harder to understand. I'll tell you what though.....I can't wait to get into a house with double-paned windows!! LOL

Scottso I would of loved to pay $3.07 a gallon for propane. The company that we have just charged me $3.27 a gallon. I about fell over when he handed me the bill and then insisted that I pay for it right then. How do you go about switching propane companies, the one we have seems to be a total rip off?

When we lived in a rental house on Tucker ( the entire house was electric) our largest bill was $1,000.00 and it ranged anywhere from $500 to $1,000 a month. I just hope that whoever lives there now is not going through what we went through the entire situation was pure hell!!!
