Has Morale become obsolete or is it just a myth? - Where is the "Team" in team work?? - dblbrlshtgn's Blog - Tehachapi News

Why would a middle aged man who has to be at work early, be sitting up at 2am with a bottle of scotch, wondering how in the hell he got to where he is today?
By all means...my intent is not to slander the place I have been employed for many years. My intent is for someone to see that there are concerns. Not just my concerns but several others who are employed and wish to stay employed.
I have thought endlessly on this subject matter and I am unable to face it head on. Why??? Because it would probably cost me my job. Anybody who works at Tehachapi Hospital knows that if you cause a wave...you might as well uh...wave good-bye.
I have seen so many things through the years and I believe that this is now far by the worst I have seen the morale at Tehachapi Hospital. Patient Care has always been my main concern. I'm not so sure that its the main concern for Administration or the Board of Directors.
We have an Administrator who seems a little "apathetic" to his team players. We have a CFO who is more concerned with..well we all know what he is concerned with. We seem to have a person, "gender unmentioned" who thinks they are the Administrator. And there are several people who think the same as I do.
I think it's time for our wonderful board to take some employees to the side. Get their opinions of what they've seen, what they have heard and what they have experienced lately at tvhd. It ain't good.
There are alot of great employees at Tehachapi Hospital. Don't get me wrong. I'm not speaking of those people. I'm speaking of the people who are supposedly controlling and keeping with our core values and mission statement.
Speaking out loud on this subject is not a wise thing to do, that I can guarantee.
C'mon Dr Conklin, Dr Horowitz, Dr Hall, Dr Olsen, and Mr Steele. Find out who's in control of our Hospital? I could go on and on about what I've seen with my own eyes. It's repulsive.
Take out a totally anonymous survey of every manager, supervisor, and employee and see what you come up with. Totally anonymous, that's the only way you will get the truth out of people who don't want to start driving down the mountain to work.

If what you say is true, good luck with "the suits" doing any investigating; in all my years working with "upper management" believe me, they could not care less about the workings of the human condition. In fact, they do not want to hear about it at all; they just want it to go away (Management 101 rules) and are mainly concerned when they will receive their bonus check. I have never worked in health care management, so there may be other rules that need to be adhered to/addressed. It is a very slippery slope to blow the whistle on the establishment; if you can do it with documented information, good for you. It is frustrating to see things that need to be fixed, and even worse, see them and know that it will fall on deaf ears; have seen and experienced the very same thing, over my many years of employment, dealing w/upper management.

I'm sorry to see that the same things are going on although I'm not surprised since I've heard that things are worse than ever. I know first-hand the frustrations and stress that plague you. I'm sure you will know who I am. I once tried to stand-up for what was right, report things to the proper agencies to protect patients & employees, and, as you said, my reward was termination after a long time employment with the hospital. I wouldn't back down like many other employees who were threatened with their jobs, I wouldn't help with the cover-up and here I sit still trying to get my anxiety & blood pressure under control after putting up with so much for so long. There was only one other employee who also refused to back down from the same incident, and that person is also unemployed now. I once thought that sooner or later someone would step-in and do what was right but after watching this go on for many years, and watching the same "administrators" get away with these things, I have little hope that any of it will ever stop, and basically the morale of the employees will continue to plummet.

It takes an ENORMOUS amount of courage to do the right thing, especially since you know it will fall on deaf ears and then you are the one who is the "odd man out" so to speak. Unless each and every item is documented in an official complaint, it is an uphill battle to prove any wrong-doing; I have seen it way too many times. To coin another annoying phrase: "You can't fight city hall" even though things are coming apart at the seams and there is a 3,000 pound elephant in the room and nobody wants to talk about it. One's physical and mental health are extremely important, and when things are bad all over at your place of employment, it escalates to the point of making a life-changing decision: Change jobs, which is much easier said than done, or stay and keep your mouth shut, all the while your stomach is in constant turmoil, not to mention stress headaches, and other ailments that may plague you, as a result. A few times I was faced with termination because I would not back down on some very blatant office issues, so I was transferred, which worked out better for me in the long run. However, it is a humbling, eye-opening experience, especially when you know the truth and nobody wants to listen, nor do they want you around to remind them of the problem.

(Better off now anyways). I know luvmy2girls had plenty of frustration at the hospital and I saw many situatiuons with her that would make a preacher cuss! Oh and that "person" who thinks they are the administrator. OMG! What is that persons deal.? I have seen wonderful things happen there. I know it needs improving, but no sense in beating a dead horse. I will continue to go there for minor things. Wait I'm Kaiser I cant!!!
