Election 2006 - Editorial Notes - editor's Blog - Tehachapi News

So, the results are in...the docs are in, Mariana Teel is out, the school board has realigned, Youngblood's the man with the star and Measure L went down without a whimper.

We want to hear what you have to say about this election. Are you happy with the results? Dissatisfied? Just glad it's over?

The fence along the border will never receive its funding. The "increase" in monitoring the borders will not be funded and will disappear. The illegals will be welcomed and handed benefits that legals can't get (and this includes the terrorists that are streaming across our borders at 4 times the rate they did before 9/11). Our taxes WILL be increased, and the tax cuts will disappear. The war in Iraq will still be lacking in funding, and we'll probably pull out before we should, thereby increasing the power of Iran and the terrorists. Pelosi will run her mouth and probably be squelched in public appearances (but not in actions) by the Dems. The Homeland Security program will be cut off at the knees, for the sake of the ACLU.
(These are my somewhat pessimistic prospectives... I really hope they aren't true, but let's face it... the Dems hold the checkbook now...)
I can't believe that Californians don't want to protect their property rights. I can't believe that 85 didn't pass. I feel like the world's gone crazy. As far as I am concerned, I am glad I live across two mountain ranges from LA/Hollywood, as these are prime targets for terrorism. I will not feel sorry for anyone who voted against 90 if their property is seized. I will not feel sorry for anyone who's daughter is hurt in a botched abortion (I"ll feel for the daughter, but not the adult) that was made legal by their vote against 85. I will not feel sorry for those young adults that voted for all of these bond issues when they complain when their state taxes increase substantially when it comes time to pay for them.
One question--how is it that real issues were ignored in favor of a "I lost weight" campaign??? Are we that stupid?
One change I saw in CA--the percentages are less liberal than they used to be. A few decades ago, the percentages of active voters was 75/25 in favor of liberal causes. Now it's about 60/40. I see this as an improvement. There is hope for our kids if this continues.
Tehachapians are going to get what they asked for in their election of all 3 doctors to the hospital board. For your sake, I hope you are right... I did some homework, and don't think you're right, but hopefully...

For the local school board, there is now NEW HOPE. The one thing that I see positively out of this election is that the Superintendent does no longer hold all the power. Too late for me, but not too late for others.

The outcomes of the House elections were not a surprise. Historically, this has been the case in a midterm election in the midst of war. Let's just hope that this cements a Republican president in '08.

If our police chief can live in Bear Valley why can't anyone else? Guess he's not on Caudles good side. I wonder why. lol All Caudle needs to do is say the word and rules no longer apply to SOME people. I don't know where Henry lives. He owns a long time business here in town. To me thats good enough. It's not like what the city does doesn't affect him in any way. He's payed his dues believe me. What they do in this city effects everyone in Tehachpi and Bear Valley, Stallion Springs, Alpine Forest..... Where do you think they go to get their gas, food, entertainment......everything? All of these people make this city possible. I know, I know rules are rules............Unless you are needed for "local control".

As far as the election goes. I am also dissappointed Prop 85 didn't pass. I also can't believe Prop 90 didn't pass. I am thrilled 83 passed. I am glad Youngblood won the Sheriffs postion, and I am also hoping that the physicians that got elected use these positions to do what's best for the people of this town and not for them themselves.

Well I'm not as happy as Sparks but I guess it depends on what side of the fence you sit on. The Republicans took it really hard on the chin. Luckily the Dems still don't have a big enough majority to overcome a presidential veto. So the fear that we would cut and run from Iraq probably still won't happen. Sorry Dems...if you want to lose the war you'll have to wait till 08 to vote in somebody that will help you snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. But we probably will have won the war by then so I guess you're just out of luck. Dems talk about a new direction or new approach. We never got to hear what direction that is. I assume they will move in whatever direction retreat is. Don't get too excited about a minimum wage hike. It will do nothing but drive the small business person out of business. And the ones that stay in business just pass on the extra cost to us... the consumer. Don't think it's going to make welfare recipients start working. If they're able to work and they are on welfare it's because they don't WANT to work. Raising the minimum wage won't change that. They will still be content with taking a hand out from Uncle Sam who gets that handout from guess who....we taxpayers! And what's the deal with prop 90? I thought that one would pass by a huge margin. Why wouldn't everybody vote to limit eminent domain? The fact that the government could take your property and give it to a developer is totally wrong. What am I missing here. I just don't get why that got voted down.

Why are we just waiting for things to get better in Iraq instead of defeating these guys? But what do you think we overspent on? I know we have a deficit but that is due to the war. And now that the Dems are in control don't expect the border to get any better. They are probably already making invitations to come over here and sponge off of our social services, attend our schools, use our emergency rooms as a doctors office and oh by the way we'll even put water along the way in case you get thirsty. Maybe we should give them all a GPS with topo maps so they can take the most direct route. Better yet let's fly a C-5 over there and bring them over here ourselves! Oh and don't forget to vote democratic! Remember we are the party that let you in!

Sparks, Okay...you're right, I can't be budged on the war either so it's probably time to put that conversation to bed. BUT (there's always a but!) regarding minimum wage I think people are forgetting something VERY important. These low paying jobs are not meant to be able to support a family. It is unskilled labor that is usually targeted at young teens to be able to gain work experience and move on to higher paid jobs. Nobody expects a job at McDonald's (unless your management) to be able to support a person living on their own or worse yet supporting a family. These are stepping stone jobs. Low pay is expected. Raising all these wages just raises the cost of living for us all. And even at it's new minimum it's not enough for anybody to live on. So what's the point?

Hi Guys,

Henry was already confirmed by the City Clerk and I verified his confirmation with the County Clerk earlier today (Wednesday). Too late for the City to check into a residency issue with him. They should have done this before any confirmation. And, I know for a fact from the voter rolls that Henry has listed his residence address here in Tehachapi. This would be an awful tough battle for anyone to fight.

With all the hours that Henry puts into his store, it makes sense to me that he would have a residence in town.

Thanks,
He's the same person liberals have kicked out of our schools and are trying to take out of our pledge of allegiance. You think were crazy? Crazy is being against capital punishment, but supporting abortion on demand (and now without any parental permission or notification). Crazy is believing that businesses create oppression and governments creates prosperity. Crazy is believing that guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens are more of a threat than U.S. nuclear weapons technology in the hands of Iran or China or North Korea. Crazy is believing that standardized tests are racist, but racial quotas and set-asides are not. Crazy is believing that homosexual parades displaying drag queens and transvestites should be constitutionally protected, and manger scenes at Christmas should be illegal. What a great party we have in power now!
