NOTHING is a deterrent for these sick individuals. We can't cure them, we can only lock them up to protect our children. I think all violent crimes should have a minimum of a 10 year sentence... .............I'm appalled.

I would think better of registering sex offenders if it was only about child molesters, but it's not.
example: A young couple, say ages 16 and 14, may date if the parent's agree (or they sneak really well). Once one teenager turns 18, s/he now runs the risk of being prosecuted as a sex offender if the younger teen's parents want to bust up the romance. That young person will have to register for the rest of his/her life as a punishment for puppy love.
I can't agree with a law that casts such a wide net.

I agree with TK.

The label, "sex offender," can mean many different things. Some serious, some not so serious.
It does not really tell you what the person did.

"The Woodsman" is a movie that deals with a sex offender who has done his time in jail and is
trying to start over. It was interesting to see, from his perspective, the obstacles he faces.
And he's not a saint either. The producer got hate mail for making the film.
It's probably Kevin Bacon's best work. I recommend it.

Hey Aero and Sparks, what do you say we send Mcgrew some powdered soap to use in the shower. It will take him a lot longer to pick up once dropped. Gives bubba a better chance in case he happens to be preoccupied with some other lucky fella!
I'm appalled too Sparks. It's obvious how little value our society puts on the weakest among us...our children. I believe that taking a child's innocence is as bad as taking a life and should be dealt with just a severely. But apparently most judges disagree. These predators are getting light sentences or in some cases probation. I don't understand why these judges don't come down hard on these guys. I'm just disgusted.

Blaze I like the way you are always thinking... powered soap, great idea!!!
TK and Sustu as I said I understand your concerns when it comes to Megan's Law. I'm not talking about the insecure demented idiots that rape women. I'm talking about adults that rape children (12 years old and younger). I recently read an article where a father was caught fornicating with his daughter... an infant of 1.5 years. This has been happening for centuries, it's only been in the last couple decades that we and the media started to talk about it. Making the public aware of the horrific violence that happens more often than we will ever know, doesn't seem to be helping. If someone ever hurt my child in this manner I would want him/her locked up for life. A 3 year sentence simply allows the predator to abuse yet another child when he gets out. Certainly there is a difference between sex offenders, although I think most sexual offenders (depending on the circumstances) should get at least 5 years unless it's the 18 year old boy sleeping with his 16 year old girlfriend kind of thing. Pedophiles should get at least 10 years as far as I am concerned. Sure a lot of us have fantasies, aggressive sex may be one of them. We may even role play, BUT we don't ACT on these fantasies with people who have not consented or can not speak for themselves because in truth we don't want to harm anyone. These SOBs don't care who they hurt. They are self-absorbed, self-satisfying psychopaths. A slap on the hand for this kind of behavior is criminal... perhaps our judges should be locked up as well. To hurt innocent children is one of the worst crimes a person can commit second only to murder. .

There will...

There will always be an oddball case of an 18 y.o. boy with a 17 y.o. girl that will slip through the cracks, and hopefully get fairly adjudicated with some leniency by a reasonable judge. However, for the most part, I also believe we need to get much tougher with these molesters, and they seem to get back on the streets entirely too soon. I say FRY THEM ALL, or send them away for good. They shouldn't have more rights than the poor kids who fall prey to them and have to suffer for the rest of their lives.
Bring on Bubba, and count me in on the collection for the powdered soap too!
