Do the blog posts really reflect the town? - Curiousity - justcurious's Blog - Tehachapi News

I can't help but notice that so many of the blog posts on here are negative and combative. But I keep hearing how friendly and nice the town is. What gives?

I mean, there's a whole batch of posts about the fire department where almost no one is nice at all. People use photos of people holding guns as their symbol. People sit and write about how much they don't like almost everything.

If you lived in another town, and were only able to form an opinion about Tehachapi by reading the posts on these blogs, what would your impression be?

Tehachapi is a physically beautiful place. We have four definite seasons, snow, trees that change color and mild summers. It has always had a small town atmosphere. But when a small town starts to develop into a larger town, negativity comes with that. People generally do not like change and when we see our little town getting a home depot, a starbucks and what looks like an infinite number of housing developments marring what were once beautiful open fields, it's a little difficult to swallow. Add to that a city staff and planning department that is allowing these changes to happen without seeming to understand the consequences, and of course, you're going to get some backlash from some angry people. This is just an easy forum for expressing that anger, especially for those among us who've felt helpless in our attempts to get anyone at the city to listen.

But also, if you're basing your opinions about Tehachapi on a blog that we're writing, I think you've got some concerns of your own to deal with.

I know what they will think! They will think that Tehachapi City Hall must be out of control! The people are complaining about an unneeded City Fire Department, an over bearing code guy, street repair, over development, nepotism, tax waist, unneeded tax, water quality, and oh yeah "Local Control" !

I would think that you found what you were looking for seeing there is only one Blog on here about the fire dept and maybe 2 or 3 more comments that may be perceived as negative or combative out of a whole 3 pages of Blogs. You also managed to find the ONLY member on here with a photo of a gun out of 30+ members. Yes, there are many of us on here that do not agree with the city politics. Show me one city that is happy with everything that is going on in it. There will always be complaints. That's life, that's what I'd think.
