<itunes:summary>
Early Saturday morning Tehachapi lost one of it's own. I considered Adam a member of my family. Many family and friends struggle to comprehend this Easter tragedy. Adam was traveling home to Tehachapi from his work location in Texas. He will be deeply missed.

Below I have copy & pasted the only news article I was able to find about the accident.

The Press-Enterprise

Four people were killed Saturday in a traffic collision involving a wrong-way driver on Interstate 40 near Needles, according to the San Bernardino County Coroner's office.

The accident occurred about 4:30 a.m. just west of Water Road after a wrong-way driver was spotted heading east in the westbound lanes.

A white Chevrolet Camaro driven by Adam James Misiura, 21, of Tehachapi, and a red Cadillac carrying three occupants -- Janace Dunkin, 63, Lowell T.C. Wilhite, 84, and Cozy Starr, 45, all from Norman, Ark., -- collided head-on.

All were pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle driving the wrong way had not been determined by early Saturday night, the coroner's office said in a news release.

The California Highway Patrol's Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating.
</itunes:summary>

Kern County Euthanasia Rate

                <itunes:summary>
Here is a link to a story run in the Bakersfield Californian regarding the outrageous number of animals that are euthanized in Kern County.

http://www.bakersfield.com/102/story/382672.html

Having been involved with animal rescue and seeing first hand the results of pet over-population, I couldn't help but take interest in a comment made by a member of the audience at the meeting held in Bakersfield.

“Over my dead body,” murmured Tehachapi dog trainer Teri Kahn from the back of the room.

“If my government is going to tell me, at a certain age, I’ve got to take my female (dog) and submit her to government-required sterilization, doesn’t that sound awfully draconian?” Kahn asked rhetorically in a subsequent interview. “What we’re saying is ‘You’re too stupid to think for yourself, so government is going to think for you.’”

Honestly, YES, that is exactly what I (and others) are saying. A large percentage of the people who are either voluntarily or involuntarily contributing to pet over-population are "too stupid" to think for themselves. If they bother to give the endless litters of puppies or kittens that their pets are having even a second thought, then they are either thinking a) my pets don't make that big of a difference, or b) they just don't care.

Yes, I understand there is a financial issue as well. However, there are options out that will help with the expenses. Local rescue groups and the county offer vouchers to help with payment, there is even a special program offered through the humane society for larger dogs, a few years ago there was a program for people on Medi-Cal that allowed for spaying/neutering pets (I'm not sure if it still exists). In the long-run, it costs more to provide food for all the extra kittens/puppies that you end up with then it would cost to simply get them spayed or neutered.

Volunteers being fired???

                <itunes:summary>
I was very shocked to hear about what recently happened to a local woman. This lady is a volunteer for the hospital guild, or should I say was. Last week I was appalled to hear that she had been fired from her volunteer position...a position that she was doing for free, on her time, because she wanted to help at the local hospital. Now first of all I have never heard of a volunteer being fired, and I have to wonder why an organization that is admittedly short of volunteers (gee I wonder why) would fire one of their own. The most shocking thing of all is the reason she was "fired". This lady's sin was taking 2 weeks off to fly out of state to be with her 2 yr old granddaughter who was having major stomach surgery. Yes, how dare this women have the audacity to care about her young grandchild...how dare she take 2 weeks off from a job she does for FREE. When the woman who decided to "fire" her told her, she told her she had taken 4 weeks off...I'm not sure how good an idea it is for someone who can't count to be answering the telephone and transferring important calls throughout the hospital. Anyone who has ever called the hospital in the morning hours should know exactly what I mean.

In my opinion the community should be very concerned about many things that are occuring at the local hospital. I believe most would be absolutely dumbfounded. I would encourage you all to attend the hospital board meetings and learn more about what is going on.
</itunes:summary>

                <itunes:summary>Can anyone tell me why they built a Home Depot here but I still have to go to the Bakersfield Home Depot if I want to buy the things I need? It is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. Trying to get a question answered was even a frustrating event. First, we had to interupt the employee who was too busy scratching his butt to ask a customer if he could help them, and then he couldn't even give a straight answer on whether or not they had something. So they built this new store that carries all this stuff but none of the things that I need...how stupid! Shouldn't the stores all carry the same items? </itunes:summary>

Golden Hills is going downhill fast

                <itunes:summary>When I moved to East Golden Hills many years ago it seemed like a nice, safe neighborhood to live and raise children. It was definitely a huge improvement from the large town I moved from. Lately though I have noticed that my neighborhood is getting worse and worse. In the past week or so a brand new house that hasn't even been occupied yet had the large garage door tagged all the way across (this still hasn't been cleaned up since the owners of the property live out of town), just a few houses down in the other direction someone tagged in huge white spray paint all of the entire body of someone's truck plus their trailer (both were parked in their driveway). When driving through the neighborhood there are places where the street is almost covered in landscaping rocks that kids have thrown into the street. Just this past weekend we witnessed two young teenage boys walking down our street with a bike, they then started checking out a vehicle in a driveway across the street, next thing they put the bike in the bed of the vehicle and took off. It makes me sad to see this once nice neighborhood now filled with teenagers & young adults who have no respect for adults (not even their own parents), the vandalism and theft that has been occurring, and no one seems to care. </itunes:summary>

                <itunes:summary>
After reading some past blogs I was quite shocked to learn that things at the hospital have improved for the employees. As an employee of the hospital for many years I have to say that I have noticed absolutely zero change since the grand jury investigation. The internal problems continue and the administration continues to have blatant disregard for their employees or at the very least for the employees who aren't busy kissing their butts 99% of the time. Most recently I was shocked at administration's new policy to bring in new employees to certain departments without so much as consulting with the department managers or even having an interview conducted. How are actions like this supposed to increase the morale among employees when they're telling their own supervisor's that they are only good for being blamed for the bad stuff but not good enough to decide who they hire for their departments? I wonder how the general public would feel knowing that clinical staff taking care of them was determined to be 'appropriate' for the job based on their opinions and not on them actually being interviewed for the position. Basically, the message I have gotten from it is "we don't give a damn about the department or current employees as long as we can meet our own self-serving needs."

I initially thought that a new CEO would be a positive thing for the employees of the hospital but have since changed my mind. At least with Ray Hino when I concern was brought up he would discuss it with the employee (even if nothing ever came of it) but the new CEO doesn't seem to care to pretend like he gives a damn. The internal politics that go on with the administration at this hospital are ridiculous. I think what they failed to realize was when the grandjury came back saying there were problems they were actually talking about the administration. By the way, can anyone tell me why the lower members of the administration get to dictate to the higher ups how things are going to be? One of the only members of administration I ever saw actually stand-up for the employees and try to do something right by the employees was Joanne Kramer and they (admin) made sure they chased her right out of there. It's amazing how they get rid of those who aren't going along with the 'rules' of their world. At any other hospital this would never happen but for some reason our hospital has 'special' rules....
