TVRPD info? - Where am I going with this? - mimi's Blog - Tehachapi News

I've been looking for some info about the summer adventure camp that TVRPD usually has, but I'm failing to find it. Has it been in the paper and I've missed it? I've gone to the TVRPD web site and there is no info about any events going on. I'd really like to know when they're holding swimming lessons as well! I haven't seen anything coming home with my daughter so I don't know if they're not sending anything out or what. Does anyone have any information about it?

What is there to do in Tehachapi during summer vacation for children ages 10 to 16?

"What is there to do in Tehachapi for kids 10 to 16?" Not much...if anything. How much have the new home builders contributed to a community/youth center here? Not a dime. Yet city council let them put in hundreds of homes, encouraged new families yet did not contribute to the infra structure to help accomadate these new homes and families.

Well, in a few years when these kids turn 18 we can always house them in the new CCI expansion facility when they get into trouble with alcohol, drugs and other mischief from hanging around doing nothing all day.

For older kids, there's always hiking on the easy trails, swimming at the pool- little things like that. And there are plenty of fun places to go nearby on cooler days, like Red Rock or Fossil Falls. We like to escape to the Bishop/Mammoth area, and there are tons of things to do up there- swimming in hot springs, mountain biking, boating, fishing, animal watching. And you haven't seen happiness until you see your mopey house dogs take off across a field to chase a herd of free-range cattle :)

Yes, I take my kids hiking, swimming and camping alot. And I usually take as many other kids as my vehicle will fit. But with the majority of both parents working nowdays there is no way to get to the pool or hiking...we need community centers/Boys and Girls clubs to fill the idle time will kids are on their own all day.

There is that one place for teens- I think it's off Mill. I'm not sure how successful it has been, but I hope it's doing well. And I always see plenty of teens around the skate park. Those are great options for kids on break. And once the Parks and Rec site is up, maybe they'll have some programs for teens over summer too. And you could always do the school route- if you commute you could drop your teen off at a community college for summer classes while you work (as long as you have a very responsible teen). It's a great way for them to get their feet wet in the adult world while they are still at home. Helps teach a ton of independence too.
