Who should they pick? - It's kava time! - oohchild's Blog - Tehachapi News

So now that it looks like we know who's going head to head in November, who do you think Obama & McCain should pick as their Vice Presidential running mates?
Do you think the VP choice makes a difference for voters?
Would you change your vote for one candidate based only on their running mate?
For me, I'd like to see Obama team up with Wesley Clarke. I think that VP candidates do make a small difference, but I wouldn't change my vote if Obama picked someone like, say, Zell Miller. I'd just want to make sure nothin' happened to him.
As far as McCain goes, I think he needs a young, charismatic conservative to balance their ticket. I keep hearing Bobby Jindal being mentioned. He's sure a young up & comer!

For the first time in my life as a registered voter...I am declining to vote in November. Voting is just a symbolic gesture anyway, making the peasants feel as though they have a say in the actual election. My husband has been preaching that to me for years, I'm finally agreeing with him. So, to answer your question, it really no longer matters to me whom they each choose.
Yes, I do think who they pick for a vp matters...
Obama should choose Clinton, Edwards or Biden. I will definately vote this year..
McCain should choose a very conservative/religious white male, and yes it probably would be better if he chose someone young.
I believe there will be a Democratic president in 2009, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Well that didn't do 1/100 th of the harm Bush has done. Obama will make mistakes too I'm sure... all humans do, but no president will ever come as close as Bush to being the village idiot. lol I wouldn't have minded Clinton winning although she is a little too far over to the right for me. I want a president who can deal with our economy, not be a war monger or a bigot, make sure Americans have health care, deal with immigration reform, and who will stop giving the very rich tax cuts. I don't think McCain will do what most Americans want, however he is fairly liberal, just not liberal enough for me.

Joty, you sound so much like my husband. He hasn't voted for years. Says it's a waste of time, but he still argues politics with the best of them. When I point out that he has no intentions of voting, he backs off ( a little.) He's in a tough spot this year, since it looks like no matter who wins, NASA doesn't. Things are gonna be tough next year.
We get to hear a lot more about the stupid stuff politicians get caught saying because there's so many more news channels, many being the 24 hour kind. It's not that they're saying more stupid stuff, we just hear about it a lot more.
I've heard many conservatives voice a positive opinion about Condi Rice as VP. Do you think this country is ready for a lesbian VP?

Sparks, I am never referring to Bill's numurous affairs that Hillary knew about but didnt care when I talk about Clinton corruption, I mean more like,
The only president ever impeached on grounds of personal malfeasance
- Most number of convictions and guilty pleas by friends and associates*
- Most number of cabinet officials to come under criminal investigation
- Most number of witnesses to flee country or refuse to testify
- Most number of witnesses to die suddenly
- First president sued for sexual harassment.
- Second president accused of rape**
- First first lady to come under criminal investigation
- Largest criminal plea agreement in an illegal campaign contribution case
- First president to establish a legal defense fund.
- First president to be held in contempt of court
- Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions
- Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions from abroad
- First president disbarred from the US Supreme Court and a state court
Number of individuals and businesses associated with the Clinton machine who have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to crimes: 47
- Number of these convictions during Clinton's presidency: 33
- Number of indictments/misdemeanor charges: 61
- Number of congressional witnesses who have pleaded the Fifth Amendment, fled the country to avoid testifying, or (in the case of foreign witnesses) refused to be interviewed: 122
As of June 2000, the Justice Department listed 25 people indicted and 19 convicted because of the 1996 Clinton-Gore fundraising scandals.
- According to the House Committee on Government Reform in September 2000, 79 House and Senate witnesses asserted the Fifth Amendment in the course of investigations into Gore's last fundraising campaign.
-James Riady entered a plea agreement to pay an $8.5 million fine for campaign finance crimes. This was a record under campaign finance laws.
Anyway, it goes on and on, too much to put here, I'll referance the link, http://prorev.com/legacy.htm

Sparks, my hubby was a contractor for many years, but we moved up here mostly so he could get a civil service position. So, he's still a newbie out there with only a few years under his belt.
Obama has been wishy-washy at best, when it comes to funding NASA. At first he said he wanted all money to go to education, basically gutting what little NASA had left. Now he's backed off that position. We really won't know his true intentions until we see his first budget.
Starbucks1, the problem with going to the Moon & Mars is funding. While Bush tried to talk a good game about manned missions to the Moon, there's barely enough money to develop the CEV & Orion rocket system. I just don't see anyone funding the projects like we did in the '60s. If it's not militarily oriented, the government puts it on the bottom of the list.
Y'know, if people really didn't care about Condi's lesbian tendencies, why is she keeping it a secret? I think a lot of people do care, it's just that those folks are the ones pushing for her to serve in an elected position. <itunes:summary>Sparks, my hubby was a contractor for many years, but we moved up here mostly so he could get a civil service position.
She needs to wake up & realize which party better serves her interests. Same with Dick Cheney's daughter.
CEV & Orion is our concern as well as you can see by the digital art I created in photoshop of the Orion in outer space (below). That is supposed to be the dark side of the moon and mars. Not to scale with the Orion, but it's art...it doesn't have to be. lol
My partner did the same thing...finally civil service here. Right, if it's not military oriented, it doesn't get funded.

For those who may not know, this project is not military, and it is funded,
Lockheed Martin Corp. won a multibillion-dollar contract to build a vehicle to replace NASA's space shuttles, put a human on the moon for the first time since 1972 and be the precursor to a manned spaceship to Mars. The award marks NASA's most concrete step to fulfill President Bush's two-year-old, $230 billion promise that the space agency would return astronauts to the moon and restore excitement about space exploration. NASA has planned to replace the shuttles since the mid-1980s.Orion will look somewhat like the three-man Apollo command module but will carry as many as six astronauts. Like the shuttle, Orion will be able to carry cargo to and from the International Space Station.Orion is expected to make its first manned flight by 2014, four years after NASA's three operating shuttles are retired. NASA said it hopes for a moon landing by 2020, NASA Constellation and Lockheed Martin engineers have completed the first stage of a realignment of the Orion spacecraft, a process to control mass issues relating to the Lunar capabilities of the vehicle - classed as the most significant issue engineers are currently working on. As Orion and Ares progress towards PDR (Preliminary Design Review) and the next phase of development cycles (DACs), the Altair Project is beginning to seriously study potential configurations for the lunar lander. Hmm this isnt military, and it got funded, , I hope the next presisdent continues this funding,

If elected...

Update,
If elected President, Senator Barack Obama plans to delay Project Constellation for at least five years, putting the saved money into a new $10-billion-a-year education program that would, in essence, nationalize early-education for children under five years old to prepare them for the rigors of kindergarten and beyond.
Why single out the space budget to cut for this program? “NASA is no longer associated with inspiration,” Obama told a campaign rally audience in March. The silence from space advocacy groups in response to this policy, made public in November, has been deafening. As I have discovered in recent weeks, Obama is personally adamant about this approach, if the details of its implementation remain hazy. http://www.thespacereview.com/article/1100/1
So there you have it Ladies, Bush started the funding, and Obama wants to end it, or at least cut it way back,
but Mcain want to continue it, http://www.johnmccain.com/informing/issues/7366faf9-d504-4abc-a889-9c08d601d8ee.htm

*rolls eyes*
As I wrote, CEV & Orion are barely being funded year to year. (You do realize what you linked to is what Sparks & I were talking about, right?) There is no long-term commitment to these projects. Going back to the Moon & on to Mars will cost much, much more than what Dubya is willing to admit, or fund. The long-term commitments go to military projects.
And Obama has changed his position since stating what you quoted. Believe me, I'm paying attention to this kind of stuff. I don't think you're telling me or Sparks anything we didn't already know.
Jeesh.

There is good to learn from his teachings as well. You don't have to believe everything e.g. reincarnation... I certainly don't, I think you can learn much good from most spiritual books.
Yes, Oochild and I are fully aware of the fact that the Orion space program was not fully funded and takes a back seat to military programs when it comes to funding. Trust me...when it's your livelihood, you tend to make it your business to know these things.
Regardless of political/religious beliefs, I think most would help each other in a time of need. We wouldn't care about political issues if one of us needed the help of the other. That's the crazy thing about people, if they disagree with each other, they will kill each other in order to have the world THEIR OWN WAY. But, if a child of your enemy was abandoned, you would save her, or if your enemy asked for water, while he lay dying, you would give it to him. Funny how the minds and hearts of people work huh?
I simply care about the welfare and the freedom of all Americans, because I have fought to have it MY WAY in the past and it was wrong, I hurt people needlessly, I understand that. Thus, I hope you are telling me the truth when you say that you Live and let Live. The world would certainly be a better place if that were true of everyone.

Now as an atheist, I have to overlook a lot of mysterious woo-woo when looking at political candidates. I even accept the LDS as electable politicians, even though the whole "Jesus took a detour to North America to visit the Jews" story is a bit much. But I really thought stuff like this would disqualify someone for VEEP. I'd be afraid he'd try to use a Ouija board to decide whether or not to invade Iran!
It's not looking too good for Hillary as VEEP. I hope she captures the Senate Majority spot. I think she'd be terrific there!

McCain needs to pick someone young and religious... But bobby Jindal is too you and too religious... Would actually like to see him pick Huckabee, I liked Huckabee's fair tax plan.
Obama can't pick Hillary... You can have your VP on tape saying that she is ready to be President and your Opponent is ready to be president, but Obama has only a speech in 2002. That was her fault and bad strategy on her part.
Who should he pick, Biden would be a good choice if it wasn't for his plagiarism charge (Reason he dropped out of the race in 1980's) Sam Nunn would be a good choice, as would Jim Webb or Tom Kaine from Virginia.

No matter who they pick, I am voting for Obama.
1. He has supported Air Traffic Controllers while in the Senate.
2. He wants us out of Iraq, and I don't want my brother to have to go back for a third tour.
3. McCain scares me that he doesn;t have command of the basic facts of his area of alleged strengths.
4. This country can't afford even afford one more year of republican leadership.

Biden would be good for that position, or Supreme Court Justice.
I just read Tim Russert's last interview, & he says Biden & Lindsay Graham are scheduled for this week's show. He called them both "short list" candidates. I wonder who'll get to host Meet The Press, now?
Sad about Tim. Only 58 years old.

While Jindal's name is still being bantered about in certain conservative circles, recent revelations about his beliefs should make anyone reconsider him for the VEEP spot. He's too vulnurable on these issues. First it was the exorcism claim, and how it flies in the face of traditional Catholic doctrine. Now this:

"Gov. Bobby Jindal this week signed the legislation (SB 733), which allows teachers to use “supplemental materials” when discussing evolution. The measure was pushed by the Louisiana Family Forum and the Discovery Institute, two Religious Right groups that advocate creationist concepts, and is widely seen as an effort to water down instruction about evolution.
“I am very disappointed that Gov. Jindal signed this unwise and unnecessary measure,” said the Rev. Barry W. Lynn, Americans United executive director. “Louisiana has a long and unfortunate history of trying to substitute dogma for science in public school classrooms. Let me state clearly and upfront that any attempts to use this law to sneak religion into public schools through the back door will not be tolerated.”
Now I'm hearing some folks throw out Tim Pawlenty's name as a possible running mate for McCain. He's the Governor of Minnesota. Let's see what shakes out of his tree.

You guys are great. When people claim to believe in God, you berate them as hypocrites who only talk without action. After insisting that you respect the exercise of personal "spirituality", but not "church dogma", you'll often ask the Christian for some personal anecdote that offers "proof" of their beliefs.
Then when one relates a detailed, deeply intense religious experience where he was forced to confront the meaning of his faith, he is ridiculed. Rather than showing respect or even neutral agnosticism, he is attacked and his story held up as evidence of a deranged mind.
Of course we know that any similar story told by a Native American and set in a sweat lodge would be treated at least with respect if not as revealed wisdom, but what makes oohchild's response even more ironic is her appeal to the authority of - all things - "traditional Catholic doctrine"!
Great job, Pope Oohchild! I look forward to your next proclaimation ex cathedra!
