This does require a bit of thinking, but I've come up with 3 out of 5:

Monty Python and the Holy Grail - If you can recite it word for word, it must be fabulous! (I can do the same for Airplane! but I wouldn't generally admit it.)

Clerks - The greatest of all Kevin Smith's movies. Back when Jay and Silent Bob's occupation wasn't watered-down. Anyone who has worked a crappy customer service job can relate to it.

The Philadelphia Story - Katherine Hepburn, Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart... you can't go wrong.

Runners up for the final spots: Tombstone, Breakfast at Tiffanys, Kill Bill vol.1, Pauline and Paulette, Chocolat...

All of mine are comedies, so I'm trying to think of more serious movies.

There was a wonderful movie around 5-10 years ago about a little Japanese boy traveling to find his mother, but I can't remember the name of it. Has anyone else seen it?

Old b/w movies, including off-beat film noir: Shadow of a Doubt; Now Voyager; Double Indemnity; Laura; Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House; The Ghost & Mrs. Muir (oops, one too many).

Trivia: Movies that reference the Tehachapi's Women Prison: The Postman Always Rings Twice; Nocturne; The Hunted; Double Indemnity; Maltese Falcon; The Grapes of Wrath.

So many movies, so little time: Wizard of Oz (am sure I have seen it over 50+++ times).

IMHO, all these movies are good and there's no swearing involved; I am not a prude, but how many times can you hear the "f" word . . . Even though some of the movies involve murder, at least in the old b/w movies, neither their head, nor other body parts are flying through the air, with the greatest of ease . . .

Several of my family members saw it...they all said good things about it. I look forward each summer to Will Smith's movies like Independence Day; Wild Wild West; I, Robot - nuts - brain fart...I can't remember the rest, but I've seen them all!

My movies are favorites 'cause every time I'm flipping through the channels, I have to stop & watch it, if it shows up on the list.

I love Silverado! Normally I'm not a big Kevin Costner fan, but I loved him in that movie, and Open Range was REALLY good to!

Let's see Tombstone was great as people have already mentioned, oh, and you can't forget about The Magnificent Seven..........Yul Brynner as a cowboy, gotta love it, and who can resist Steve McQueen! :)

There is no way I can only list 5 movies! There are soooo many!

I'm a huge fan of Classics........Meet me in St. Louis, National Velvet, Gone With The Wind, Harvey Girls......I could go on.

Ummmmmm, Braveheart, I actually REALLY liked 300 too! I know I'm an odd girl.........but to even it out I LOVED The Notebook! LOL I really liked the Underworld movies.

Comedy...........The Wedding Crashers, Swingers, Dodgeball............What can I say, I really Like Vince Vaughn. :)

Oh, Ruby, I haven't watched The Ghost and Mrs. Muir in ages! That brings back memories. Anyone remember The Uninvited? That was a great ghost story too.

As far as musicals go, I can't watch South Pacific because I cry way too much during it. I hate movies that make me cry. I go for the lighter musicals: Oklahoma, Sound of Music, The King and I.

Oh, I know some other movies I forgot: Holiday Inn (who could forget the bitter Bing Crosby with the crooked wig?) and Road to Morocco (a guilty pleasure- I own all the "roads").

Lori, you're right, both Westworld and Capricorn One were from the 70's, I guess they just seemed like they were from the 80's!

How about the difference between wide screen and full frame (pan and scan). I HATE full frame since you miss half of the director's original shot. Especially if a shot was filmed from edge to edge with people or scenery, you're missing it! I am a full advocate of wide screen. I think it was Martin Scorsese who said the technician doing the pan and scan process is essentially re-directing the movie! As an amateur photographer I try and frame my shots so there is something to see everywhere in the frame. I wouldn't be too happy about someone chopping off the sides just to fit a particular format. If I wanted a square frame, I would have shot it that way!

No Joty, Soylent Green was Charleton Heston and Edward G. Robinson, two legends! There were also a whole bunch of other great people in it too, it's about time to see that again!

OK, a few more. John Wayne in The Shootist, Robert Mitchum and Curt Jurgens in The Enemy Below, Richard Widmark and Sidney Poitier in The Bedford Incident. And, of course, most of the Bond films ending with Octopussy in 1983!

I enjoyed the first National Treasure, hated the second. Sequels hardly ever cut it. I want to see The Dark Knight, but am hesitant. I am a Heath Ledger fan, and this being his last movie...

I was watching Volcano (I'll watch anything with Tommy Lee Jones!) on a movie channel the other night. The first time I saw it, I loved it. Watching it again, all I could think was "how stupid is that?" lol

GregL, you worked on Hancock? Ok, Give me your review. I loved it. After I got home, my daughter asked how it was and I was ticked because it's the kind of movie you can't talk about until someone has seen it. I told Bigdog it was a "love story", he just cringed. He doesn't seem to understand why they have to throw the "love story" into a perfectly good movie. I feel the same way about Boobs.

I know most of us are talking about older flicks. However, Will Smith is one of the best actors out there these days IMO.

My very all time favorite film...if we're talking oldies...Cool Hand Luke. I love Paul Newman and George Kennedy in that movie.

"What we have here is a failure to communicate"...Hey that fits here a lot of times. I think I'll start throwing that phrase around.

Cool Hand Luke was so awesome! Strother Martin played the warden, he was also in a few Andy Griffith episodes.

LOL, Greg....I can't even remember what the movie was called...a fairly new one with Denzel Washington...Where the girl was suppose to be murdered and they were watching her life. The first time I saw Denzel look at her on the morgue table I turned to Bigdog and said "ohhhh, it's gonna be a loooove story". I was sure he was gonna get off the couch and find something else to do. He watched it and then complained afterward. Why do they have to throw this love story sh*t into every movie?

LOL! Ok, I had to put in Top Gun because it's my husband's repetetive fave (right up there with Jerry Maguire) and I'm sorry to admit that I think it's been etched into my brain. He can watch it over and over and over, although he's been slacking lately. I stumped him on two very easy trivia questions just yesterday: Who said, "Take me to bed now or lose me forever!" - and to whom? What song did Goose play on the piano during the bar scene?

If it weren't for the awesome flight scenes - and the volleyball scene! - it'd never make my list.

Madkow, I love the scene in Pulp Fiction when Christopher Walken tells the story about the watch.

Has anyone watched The Wizard of Oz in sync with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon? Trippy, man......

Oohchild, yes I have, it ROCKS! I sync'ed up a DVD of the movie and the 'Dark Side...' CD and made my own DVD, so I can watch it whenever, it's really cool!

1.) Titanic ( Have to have a Love story in the mix)

2.) Nightmare on Elm street

3.) Chronicles of Narnia

4.) Flushed Away ( got to have a kid's movie in there)

5.) The green mile

There are so many it is hard to narrow it down to 5. There is a movie I have been thinking of and I cannot remember the name of it. It is about a woman that is obsessed with this guy she stalks him and does things to him. I think the main star is Michael Douglas or Richard Geere. It is just not comeing to me......

I've never been brave enough to watch Fatal Attraction! Too many nightmares! As a kid I use to get nightmares from The Wizard of OZ but now it is one of my favorite movies. I like Blast from the Past on evenings that I just want to veg and watch a movie that doesn't require much thinking. Sometimes my brain is just full.

Did you know they changed the ending of that movie, based on early screenings? The original ending had Anne Archer's character die, and Glenn Close ends up marrying Michael Douglas & having the baby with him. Audiences hated it, so they went back & filmed the ending as it is now.

I can't imagine that movie without the ending scene with Glenn Close coming up out of that bathtub!
