Movie remakes - Life, The Universe and Everything - scottso's Blog - Tehachapi News

What is the deal with all these remakes and rehashes of old movies? I read they are remaking Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds now. Didn't they learn with the ridiculous remake of Psycho? Re-making Hitchcock movies borders on sacrilegious. With so many good stories out there I find it incredible that they go back and rehash (and usually butcher) the old movies. They even remade Halloween. I mean come on. Thats just a slasher flick! Its just a cheap thrills movie to begin with, and not about story.

Anyway, sorry for the rant. I just love movies so much and the average quality of movies these days is just going down the tubes. It frustrates me.

I'm with you on this-It's hard enough to find a movie that's good anymore ,and then they mess with the classics.I loved The Birds and won't go see the re-make.Someone should write up a contract against mangling the classics. That goes for music too!

I don't watch many movies anymore. As for remakes, I learned a long time ago they would be a disappointment. The Birds. I was just a little girl when that came out. That was and always will be the scariest movie ever for me. I'll never forget the close up of the lady with her eyes plucked out. (ew, scary). My son LOVES, those slasher movies. He's not into story line, mystery, or any such thing. I did watch two movies recently, that to me were really good. They made you think and were kind of creepy. 1408 which I posted on recently. Stephen King movie that was really creepy. I want to read the book. The latest I watched was Dejavu, it was kind of creepy too. Bigdog and I watched it and after watching it awhile, I told him ohhhhhh, it's a love story. Mind you the main female character was dead. But I love Denzel Washington, to me, he is truly an actor, his whole face takes on character. Bigdog, being the Big Dog he is was so upset that I would suggest it was a love story. His words...."SHE'S DEAD". I told him I don't care, look at the way he's looking at her. (In my best love story female tone of voice). I just love a good movie.

They've remade Sleuth, Michael Caine is in it again, but this time he plays the novelist whose wife leaves him for a younger man (his original role 1972) now being played by Jude Law. Didn't Law also play Alfie in the remake, another Michael Caine movie?

King Kong three versions. Hairspray - how can anyone think they can top John Waters?

And what about those terrible movies based on old TV shows? Anyone remember Lost in Space? Arggghhhh!

Hey Scott, I'd have to agree with how cheesy it is to keep re-making these movies which seem so "Hollywood" if you
know what I mean.
I'm a movie buff myself and I really like murder mysteries. Did you see the "Black Dahlia? " The new one really Sucked (excuse the expression). There was one that came out before this one that was much better.
That was also the case with "The Zodiac". The older version was much better in my opinion.
I would also agree that there are many stories that could and should be told. But...just like many things in modern times, it's usually about the money$
