Thanks Tehachapichick, I never thought Gube was Shane, how can anyone confuse the two?... lol For one Shane likes a good debate, and he's intelligent enough to have one. Gube can never back up his accusations and won't even debate with people about illegal immigration, because he doesn't know much about illegal immigrants, he only knows he hates them.

Dear Robert Price, I don't know who Gube is personally but u seem 2 B accusing him of being "Shane". You also are accusing him "Shane" to have been fired from the prison for racial sentiments. My husband and I personally know "Shane" (hubbie worked with him at CCI). Shane was not fired or let go. He left voluntarily to go to the Fire Academy. Hope this helps ease your mind.

I think Gube is not only a racist, but he's an instigator as well. See how he is throwing your blog in your face? No wonder he doesn't want to be seen in public. Many might say he's a racist coward whom they have absolutely no respect for. Yes some people still accidental click on his blogs. It's hard not to. I have done it a few times myself. He has posted so many of them...sometimes 2 or 3 a day! He thinks he is helping his cause when actually he is making it worse. Now that I know how racist people can be.. I have a great concern for illegals and I am thinking of them more as humans now instead of simply being illegals. I am not only saddened that bigotry still lives in America... as you can see I'm upset about it, as are most of the other bloggers who have posted here. However, I am a defender of free speech and I would never ask the TN to stifle him.

OMG! Obviosly her bail wasn't set high enough.... She's going to skip town just like she did in Riverside county, and do the same thing all over again! Didn't anyone bring it to the judge's attention that she ran away from charges before?? Do the authorities from Hemet know where she is - can they get her? I'm sure there's still an outstanding warrant!

That's one of the problems with throwing a new module up on a CMS like this, yes even Drupal open source programmers don't take all the browsers into consideration. However, it could be a security issue, or a computer issue as well. Buggy addons irritate me to no end. That's why I stick with the boring but stable widgets, plugins and modules for my CMS sites. I use my own site to test out the new buggers on... lol I tried the new Friends module on my Drupal site and it didn't work correctly for everyone until I upgraded my CMS to Drupal 6, and then the upgrade itself created some problems of it's own. Being a webdesigner can be frustrating ....why can't everything just work.. lol You would be doing the TN webmaster a favor if you could tell him/her what kind of browser you are using, what computer and windows system (unless you are using a Mac) you are using and what your security settings are. Until they can fix it they will need to delete that module

LOL Greg, I wish I could! My work provides the computer I use, and since we have sensitive client information on our computers I have absolutely no control over them. Even if I bring in a laptop from home, I have to jump through a million hoops from our auditing department in order to get permission. Just not worth it.

I'll just keep tryin' & hope they get to the problem soon.

Oohchild, buy a Mac! LOL! It looks like the TN reverted the blog update back to it's original form. I'm not having any issues, but I'm running Safari and I didn't try to comment on any blogs during the short lived update. I also don't have any problems with the news stories. I think they're still playing around with the software though, the entire server was up and down earlier this morning.

P.S. Have you tried Firefox? It's a pretty good browser and it's free.

Immigration Problem in the U.S.
The first move stopping immigration decided by Congress was a
law in 1862 restricting American vessels to transport Chinese
immigrants to the U.S. The Alien Contract Labor Laws of 1885, 1887,
1888, and 1891 restricted the immigration to the U.S. of people
entering the country to work under contracts made before their
arrival. Alien skilled laborers, under these laws, were allowed to
enter the U.S. to work in new industries. By this time anti-immigrant
felling rose with the flood of immigrants and in this period the
anti-Catholic, anti-foreign political party the Know-Nothings, was
already born.

After World War I a marked increase in racism and the growth
of isolationist sentiment in the U.S. led to demands for further tight
legislation. In 1921 a congressional act provided for a quota system
for immigrants, which the number of aliens of any nationality admitted
to the U.S. in a year could not exceed 3 percent of the number of
foreign-born residents of that nationality living in the U.S. in 1910.
This law applied to nations of Europe, the Middle East, Africa,
Australia, New Zealand, Asian Russia, and certain islands in the
Atlantic and Pacific. In the 1980s concern about the surge of illegal
aliens into the U.S. has led Congress to pass legislation aimed at
cutting illegal immigration. The Immigration Reform and Control Act of
1986 allows most illegal aliens who have resided in the U.S. regularly
since January 1, 1982, to apply for legal status. Also, the law
prohibits employers from hiring illegal aliens and mandates penalties
for violations.

Debate over immigration and immigration policy is not new to
the nation's history. From time to time, Congress jarred legislation
to control the flow of immigration. As immigration rises and hatred
grows more laws will be implemented trying to release some of the
pressure. Illegal immigration has some pros and cons. I will discuss
the pros first and explain them briefly in order for you to get a
better understanding of the position. It offers cheaper labor to
businesses. By not paying minimum wages to the workers who are willing
to work for a lower price, this gives the business an edge over other
competitors. Provides culture diversity in the united states. Bringing
in immigrants gives more and different cultures to the U.S.. which can
expand businesses to other fields of the world. Also giving people a
more understanding of other cultures.

Lowers the cost of products produced in the U.S. that we buy.
If the businesses can produce products and services at a low price
keeping there overhead low, then we as a consumer will also pay a
lower price. Most illegals are skilled workers and helps run the
economy. Other countries economy is also being helped. The workers
bring money to their families out side of the U.S. which in most
cases the U.S. dollar has a higher value than their own.

Experts disagree saying the cons of this issue out way the
pros. Next I will discuss some cons and explain them briefly. Illegal
immigrants pay no tax. If they pay no taxes then how can we as a
country pay for public services we as well as they do. Sending money
out of our economy and sending it to their families abroad. If money
is taken out of our economy it causes a monetary problem. this can
cause an inaccurate account of money in circulation which might cause
inflation. Lower wages. If an illegal is willing to work for under the
minimum wage then the employer will not pay more for the job to any
other employ. In fact might higher only illegals and take away jobs
form legal residents who are willing to work.

When illegals come to this country they do not get tested for
diseases that might infect the population. Which can cause a health
problem. Such as polio, tuberculosis and other forms of diseases.
Illegals cost the states money, paying for education, health care, and
other social services. In an already under funded programs they give
these services a more heavy burden to deal with. Republicans have
reached agreement among themselves on legislation designed to combat
illegal immigration. But with their package facing delaying tactics
from Senate Democrats and a veto from the president, they finished the
week of Sept. 2 uncertain of their next move1 "Republicans need to
show we can govern,"2 said bill sponsor Lamar Smith, R-Texas. "We need
to show we can pass good legislation."3

Dianne Feinstein (d-Calif.) called for tough and controversial
enforcement measures, including imposing a toll on anyone entering the
united states to raise revenues to beef up the Border patrol.4 Sen.
Alan Simpson (R-Wyo.) one of senate's leading authorities on
immigration issues, also proposed a similar border tax ten years ago,
but was defeat in senators fearing it would detour tourists.5

Referring to the Democrats "If they want to go home and do
nothing about illegal immigration, that's a gross violation of what we
should be doing,"6 said Sen. Alan K. Simpson, R-Wyo., sponsor of the
Senate bill. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., and other Democrats on
the Immigration Subcommittee said Republicans would have to choose
between passing an immigration bill, or proving their ideological
purity on the public school issue.7

Both democrats and republicans agree that illegal immigration
should be dealt with. The problem is they cant agree on anyone
purposes given to them. The Democrats say it is the Republicans fault,
the Republicans say it is the Democrats fault. With this type of
finger pointing neither of them will gain a fast decisive action to
resolve the problem. When it comes to illegal immigrants there are a
lot of interest groups that have been involved in this issue. From
businesses to governments agencies.

First the businesses, especially in agriculture. Agriculture
employs more undocumented workers than any other industry in the
country. Half of California's 700,000 farm workers are estimated to be
undocumented. "Three decades ago, the percentage of foreign-born farm
workers in California was 50 percent,"8 the Chronicle stated. "Now it
is 92 percent."9

Agriculture, however, is not the only industry with an
insatiable need for the cheap labor provided by immigrants. Published
by the Chronicle, a list of businesses fined by the INS in San
Francisco includes a car rental company, construction firms,
restaurants, clubs, a trucker, a travel agency and even a Protestant
church.10 Everywhere one looks today, one sees immigrant workers
cleaning rooms in hotels, mowing lawns in the suburbs, pumping gas in
service stations, doing janitorial chores in countless workplaces,
toiling in the garment industry and doing all sorts of temporary jobs.

These business groups have a lot of interest in illegal
immigration. They provide cheaper labor which cuts costs and causes
better competition. Richard Rogers, district director of the INS in
Los Angeles, was quoted as saying: "If we were to increase fines 75 to
80 percent, we would probably have a lot of people out of business."11

Government agencies are also involved. The new immigration
legislation nearly doubles the size of the Border Patrol. In addition,
National Guard and active-duty armed forces personnel are used more
and more along the border. Local police forces are also being
authorized to enforce immigration law, says Roberto Martinez of the
American Friends Service Committee's U.S./Mexico border program.12

Possible solutions to the problem. Faster citizens processing,
helping illegals country's economy such as NAFTA which is already in
affect. Some suggest tamper proof residency cards, computerize the
I.N.S., increases the number of boarder patrol agents, and build a
wall around the U.S. and problem countries. There has been many
suggestions made in dealing with this problem. The Gallegly bill is
one of them. If ever completed by House-Senate conferees, is likely to
include several conditions already adopted in similar form by both
chambers. As passed by the House and Senate, the bill would:

Increase the number of border patrol agents by 1,000 each year
between 1996 and 2000, roughly doubling the force to reach 10,000.
Make it difficult for people caught trying to enter the United States
illegally, or overstaying a visa, from being granted visas in the
future. Establish pilot programs in which employers could
electronically check the immigration status of their employees.
Restrict public benefits for legal immigrants by increasing the time
for which their sponsors are responsible for them. This section is
partially obtained by the welfare law, which denies benefits to many
legal immigrants. Allows the deportation of legal immigrants
who illegally accepted public benefits for 12 months or more. Besides
the Gallegly provision, which is in the House bill only, conferees
face two other issues with major disagreements between the two
chambers:

The House would require that any family wishing to sponsor a
legal immigrant earn at least twice the poverty rate. The Senate
bill would require the family to earn an income one-fourth higher
than the poverty rate. The House bill would also make it much more
difficult to apply for political asylum, both for those who apply
upon entry into the United States or for those already on U.S. soil.

Immigration experts generally agree that the Clinton
Administration has devoted more attention to immigration than either
of its two Republican predecessors and he always has at least two
reactions: his initial public statement (determined largely by
public-opinion polls, which show support for restrictions), and then
the actual policy (as determined by his advisors and the various
special interests they represent).

Clinton proposed legislation that included expedited exclusion
for frivolous asylum claimants, an increase in INS asylum personnel,
and various anti-smuggling provisions. President Clinton's record on
legal immigration. In June 1995, the U.S. Commission on Immigration
Reform, chaired by the late Barbara Jordan, recommended a modest cut
in legal immigration and the elimination of some extended-family
immigration categories.

President Clinton immediately endorsed the recommendations as
"consistent with my own views" and added that they "are pro-family,
pro-work, pro-naturalization."13 Clinton's record on illegal
immigration, since that is a major focus of his re-election campaign,
particularly in California, a must-win state. Less than three months
after taking office Clinton sent to Congress his Fiscal Year 1994
budget proposal for the Immigration and Naturalization Service, which
included cutting 93 Border Patrol positions. President Clinton gave a
speech in which he proclaimed that "our borders leak like a sieve" and
urged that $45.1 million be spent to beef up the Border Patrol,
including six hundred new agents.14 He failed to mention that the
House had already approved an additional $60 million for the Border
Patrol, or that the Senate Appropriations Committee had approved an
additional $45 million.

One of the California's response to the problem was
proposition 187. This proposition seeks to deny social services to
illegals and their children. Pete Wilson, governor of California,
announces his intention to file a suit against the federal government
for "its failure to control our nation's borders."15 He claims that
there are a million illegal residents in the city of Los Angles alone,
and that since 1988 the taxpayers of California have spent more than
$10 million in education, medical, and prison costs for illegal
immigrants.

My personal opinion is not good for illegal immigrants. I
believe that illegals should deal with their problems in their
countries, instead of coming here and creating more problems. If there
country has a poor economy then they should fix it. In the long run
it would be good for their country, but I know this is easier said
than done. The illegals that are already here should be deported. The
term "illegal" speaks for itself , that is what they are called
illegals. Also they should not live and take up social services that
legal residents use. Some people say "They have the right to use these
services they, pay sales tax and don't file income tax which in most
cases the government owes them." Well I do not see it that way. I
found that a majority of illegals that work here take the money out of
the country and into there families in other countries. Most of their
net income goes outside of the U.S. economy.

My father came to this country over 30 years ago. He applied
for a visa, which took him two years to get, complied with all
regulations dealing with immigration to the U.S. After arriving to the
U.S. he work hard to became a legal resident and finally a citizen,
gaining all privileges of that citizenship. Why should others come and
take those privileges while they come here illegally.

Out of the solutions given in section three the one I believe
to be the best is the Gallegly bill. I believe that a tighter
restriction with added border patrol would be the best and reasonable
option. Building a wall with machine gun towers would be a great
deterrent as in the old Germany, but I don't think that's America's
style.

Hmmm. Just goes to show how short my attention span is. LOL Nope, this black Lab mom is home with the rest of her puppies. Only the one was missing from the back fenced yard. Sounds like someone might have taken the little guy. Not likely a baby that young could have escaped on his own.

Well, I just got back from a trip and read up on this blog, one of my biggest things is, if you can not afford it here, then you should move to an area that you can afford, wether it is housing, fuel costs for gas, or bus transportation fees for the schools... which are getting up there :(... I am not going to move down to Beverly Hills, or Santa Barbara and ask for low income housing.... I move to an area I can afford. I do not want to pay my hard earned dollars just to live by somebody who gets to live next to me for minimal effort. Even if it is not a person who is "working" the system, I work and pay a lot to live where and how I do. If you can not afford it and need low income housing in an area that is already rather cheap to live in by California standards.... then move to a place that already has housing for the low income people....

I have a problem with this update: I no longer can view news stories or blog threads. I was able to post this morning just prior to the update, but after that (using IE) I got the "this page cannot be viewed" message on my computer at work. Works fine from home (obviously.)

Same problem over at the Bakersfield Californian: I can't view specific articles & blogs. Only the preview pages.

Guess I'll have to say "adios" to all the TN bloggers who helped me keep my sanity at work. I'll miss you guys!

Whatever the title ot the task, the worst job has to be when you're really good at something and you really care about doing it well, but your bosses don't care about anything but making More Money! More Money! with absolutely no regard for providing customers with a professional, quality product. When an employer doesn't give you the tools and resources to do the best possible job, or a reasonable amount of compensation or even strokes for managing to pull it all off, no matter how hard you work, you'll always have nothing but too much stress and a mediocre product (at best) to show for your exhaustive efforts. When the honchos finally manage to suck the life from every last worker who hung in there anyway, the doors will finally close leaving a hole in the community they're supposed to be dedicated to serving.

1) A pull-out from Iraq in that short of time would be a disaster. We got into the mess- make sure it doesn't become another mess all over again. Wait until the Iraqi police forces are trained and ready to take over. IMHO ;)

2) Stand by your allies, but don't pull away from countries that have different opinions than us. France and Germany are wonderful countries that deserve our respect, agreements over wars or not.

3) The US and the UN are major stabilizing forces in the world. A major part of this stabilization comes from financial aid to poor countries. Plus, 1st and 2nd world countries did a number on most countries that were former colonies. Formerly sufficient areas became countries that can collapse on the whim of international markets, and that are practically enslaved by the World Bank and IMF. Isolationism is not an option in the age of globalization. I agree that we should help our country first, but we can't ignore the suffering of others simply because they do not fall within our borders.

4) Instead of pouring money into Social Security-- why not just fix it?

5) I do like the idea of shredding the cars of diplomats that thumb their noses at our laws, lol! But how about this: we treat them according to our laws, no better and no worse than any US citizen.

Anyway, there's my opinion on it :)

I spoke to Jon on Friday and again yesterday, he assured me Hooks is doing fine, but his Dr.'s were regulating a new medication and he was just not feeling himself. Jon says he will reschedule the evening with Hooks at Mama Hillybean's. Hooks is such an intersting fellow, I can't wait to here his views on our changing/changed world.

Thanks TN, for thinking of us and providing us with an update or upgrade. Could we possibly get a "Latest Blog Comments" button (or something similar) on each page? It's sort or irritating to have to go back "Home" then scroll down, click the "Blog" button, then click "See More Blog Comments" every time you want to find a discussion.

What would be really fancy is if we had a feature to "watch" a certain discussion. :)

Another thing that upsets me is that the TN posted this same story 4 days after I posted it here on the blogs. I got it off of the Bakersfield Californian on line on the 3rd of July and the TN ran it on the 7th. I understand that the TN is a weekly newspaper But the TN news on some occasions will post news stories as they happen.........They have done this with the depot fire on at least two times. Why is a old building that burnt down more news Worthy then one of Tehachapi's own being severely injured ?..I personally feel that Sgt. Justin Clenard receiving the Purple Heart should have been reported on as it happened. The Bakersfield Californian reported on it and so it wouldn't have been hard to post the story here on the news.

swilli I to feel as you do about this poorly planed out war. Bush has done more to hurt this country then ant terrorist ever did. Because of Bush the whole world hates the USA. Our next president has his work cut out for him because of Bush.
That being said I feel it is important to show our troops support despite how I feel about these wars.

Swilli there is nothing to be sorry for, most of us feel as you do. There are many brave soldiers who are willing to do anything to protect our country. I'm very proud of them all, and I'm glad they here for us, someday America may actually need them. Sadly, Bush is a greedy, self serving...... OK, no profanity right?

Anyway, It's good to see that this young man is getting the medical help and support he deserves. Life will not be easy for him. When one of our own gets hurt, it's very sad, and angers most of us. However, the important thing now is to show how much we care for our soldiers, and to support them in any way we can. Voicing your opinion on the Iraq War is one of the ways to support our soldiers. You may be the first, but you wont' be the last to speak of your hatred for Bush and what he is doing to our men and women in the military on this blog. If we had all our soldiers in Afghanistan dealing with the land mines and the Taliban instead of over in Iraq trying to please Bush, things may have turned out differently for this brave young man.

Another point of view. This picture broke my heart. His legs went to pay for Bush's selfish focus on the oil in Iraq. All we got was highter gas prices, maimed bodies and minds, and over 4000 dead.

Lease/Option is only possible if you're trying to sell a second home. If you need to sell your only house then you'll need a straight sale to get the money for your next home, otherwise how can you move out / in? Lenders won't look at collected rent as income until you've had it rented out for several months. So, you need to sell to get the down payment for your next place. If a person wants to retain a second home for rental income then it makes no sense to do a lease/option because if the option is exercised at the end of the term you'll lose your steady income.

I"m all for putting an end to the Iraq war in a intelligent and timely manner, and yes, I would like to see us spend more of our money here at home instead of in other countries like China. However, I want to remain friends with all people on this planet. Just because they didn't agree with us when we went to war in Iraq doesn't mean I now HATE them. Heck, I didn't want the U.S. to go to the Iraq war either . I'm not going to alienate other countries, or other people simply because they didn't want to kill people for no good reason. Although I am now quite proud of my culinary and baking skills, that hasn't always been the case. Once, as a teenager, I decided I wanted to surprise my father with a batch of warm homemade cookies when he returned home from work. I refused my mother's offer of help, and set about making my offering of daughterly love. The recipe called for baking powder, we had baking soda...both white powdery stuff, right? Not quite. The end results was a plate of leaden lumps of hard packed dough that could quite possibly been classified dangerous weapons. Picture the headline - "Cookies Tossed, The Enemy Has Lost!" My father, bless his loving heart, took one and painfully choked it down, all the while telling me how delicious it was.

Fast forward a few years...I was a young wife, pregnant with my first child. I got up one Sunday morning before my husband and decided to make him a hot breakfast of bacon and pancakes. The bacon was sizzling away in a pan while I mixed the batter. I carefully ladeled out six of the most perfectly matching round daubs that ever were. I patiently waited, spatula in hand which was resting on my bulging belly, for the bubbles to break indicating it was time to turn them. With said spatula, I attempted to flip the first one...it wouldn't budge. I tried the next, same thing. All firmly cooked to the griddle. When I realized all my work had been for naught, I again took said spatula and proceded to beat those pancakes until they were unrecognizable. After my temper tantrum had passed, I burst into tears seeing the gooey mess on the walls, ceiling, stove, refrigerator and floor. My husband who had been awakend by the sounds eminating from the kitchen, rushed in to see what was going on. He took me in his arms to comfort me, telling me cereal would be fine. So, instead of eating pancakes - he was scraping them of the various kitchen surfaces. Oh, the bacon turned out perfectly...

I just Googled rent to own tehachapi and came up with a few homes and 1 realtor that specializes in this. And now is the time to buy as prices are low. There is even a home in BVS for $159,000 right now. And check into short sales--there is a realtor in Palmdale who seems to have a lot of Tehachapi homes in foreclosure, short sales and bank owned properties.

TK..... as a matter of fact our house is located across from a retention pond. I'm so glad you told me about the insect control. Just tonight a little one fell out of the nest. He's in pretty good shape from a long fall but my kids and I noticed that he has one wing that is shorter that the other. Nemo if you will. So he's in our laundry room where its nice and warm tucked away in a cozy box eating baby cereal. So far so good. I knew I would get stuck taking care of the ones that fall from the nest. This is my way of making peace with the little buggers!

I worked one summer at a slaughter house when I was 16. I grew up hunting and fishing and thought it would be no big deal. I was very wrong. The smell of death was on me so bad that our family dog did not come near me for over 2 months. After college, I worked in Hazmat for years. I traveled the world and in doing so, I fell in love with food from around the world (I also met my wife while in China). When I got married I promised my wife I would stop doing Haz work and I did. But, the very last job that I did was not only super close to home but was also grim to say the least. Our neighbor (a 30 something male) at our apartment complex in Long Beach died in his apartment. About 3 days later, I could smell him rotting. I called the police as I knew that smell oh too well and I saw that his mail was backed up in the box. The police broke the door down and he was on the sofa. I won't get into details. I identified the body and as fate would have it, my company had the contract to clean up the apartment of all biohaz. The next day, I suited up with one other coworker and went in and cleaned up the body fluids that had released from his corpse. Had to cut the sofa up with a chain saw to be incinerated and the same goes for the carpet under the sofa. He was a nice young man. We lived next to him for 4 years. I never found out how he died. I have many haz stories that are pretty bad.
