She's not an unknown.... there was a buzz about her being a running mate months ago....and she's a mother of a solider herself. Everyone thought that Romney was a shoe in..... I heard a rumor that the Obama campaign already had political ads out, slamming McCain and Romney. His whole campaign now has to take a different strategy. This was a total shock to some and but she wasn't an unknown.

I think it was a brilliant choice. She's not afraid to make challenges even with her fellow Republicans. She's made very positive changes for Alaska. She's even more conservative than McCain. She has 12 years experience in politics. She's educated about alternative fuel. She was a homemaker before going into politics to 5 children and has a child with Down Syndrome. Alaska has thinks she's done a wonderful job as Governor and she's a woman. Come on, MrLo, you have to admit she's hotter than Obama and McCain! ; ) Why not give her the chance with McCain?

He made a great decision, it is better than the liberal pro choice Tom Ridge, at least he picked someone who has the conservative vote. Besides look at the other side at least it evens things out a bit, Obama has barely any political experience, he picked Biden who has a ton, McCain has a ton of experience, and his VP has a little. I think it will keep things interesting.

From what I have seen and read about the VP selection for McCain is better than McCain himself. She is much more conservative in the traditional sense than Bush or McCain is.

Thanks,TO&OS, it was hazy for me how Aki was handled, they did take him asap,to his regular vet. I don't know the name,& she showed the x-rays to another vet. & he agreed, Aki, could not have been saved.

IMO a sidewalk from THS to Old Town and bike path all the way from one end of 202 to the other would be the way to go! Its also scary dealing with bicyclists on 202 past Woodford/Tehachapi Rd. I agree with sunshine as far as a crosswalk it wouldn't matter, we need a 4-way stop or light to slow people down. And if the sun was the problem for this motorist they why was he speeding up? When the sun is in my eyes that bad I tend to slow down and shield my eyes for better vision.

I have seen many people in that area trying to cross so the need for modification of the area is there since it's a residential neighborhood. I agree with Sunshine again about the wheelchairs there are times I am afraid that they will tip over because they are trying to move on dirt and hills. I don't think there is any excuse for that road not to have at least one sidewalk

Mental illness can be difficult to deal with. The people who are the hardest to get along with are usually mentally ill. I too, would send her a little basket and a short note explaining the situation involved Zues and you still want to be her friend. Then let it go, and start with a clean slate next time you see her, even if she does not want to.

I'd explain about Zues and just let her know if she needs any help around the house/yard or someone to sit and have a cup of tea with, you're available and you'd like to be her friend. No harm done. Sun in the eyes is not an excuse. I often wait 15 or 20 min before I leave town because of the sun setting on the 202. It's a pain in the azz sometimes but it has to be done to prevent tragedies like this. Many times I have pulled over in my motor home and waited 30 min or so for the sun to go down when I am out on the road. If a traffic hazard exists, take the safest route. It's not worth having a scene like this burned into your memory for the rest of your life or dealing with your conscience.

When I moved here just over a year ago I thought ohh a nice small town, that'll be great. When I moved in and took a few strolls around the neighborhoods I was disappointed. There are all those shops just down the street from me and even though they are well within walking distance, I haven't walked there. There is a serious lack of crosswalks and even sidewalks. I'm honestly not surprised at all that someone was hit and injured. There are very few places to actually cross the road safely even when people follow the speed limit. Considering how many pedestrians actually travel that road it is necessary. This city definitely needs to become more pedestrian friendly. A crosswalk sure won't save anyone from a speeding driver, but will provide a place for the pedestrian traffic that flows back and forth from that area to cross the street safely.

Someone should start a petition to show our concern and have something done about it. I am sure if you went door to door around the area you wouldn't find one person who thought it was a bad idea.

I hope that Diane recovers quickly and am so sorry for her loss.

I feel for this woman over the loss of the dog. This is another reason why we need a real vet clinic that will see animals after 5pm. But this dog may not have made it with even vet intervention. When I worked as a FF/paramedic we always took the animals too. A phone call to my husband or friends and the animal was picked up. I fostered dogs, cats, a horse and some fish once until the family/owner could pick them up. I also spent may hrs with friends looking for pets that escaped after a car accident. And if we had our own animal shelter, we would have a place to shelter these animals.

Wasn't this the area that everyone wanted to put the New City Hall in the middle of a shopping complex with a new grocery store? And add more to the traffic/congestion of the area?

Yes this area needs a crosswalk and sidewalks. Kids walk in the mud to school and I too, have seen the woman in the motorized W/C driving on the shoulder of the road. The city should have put a "bike path/sidewalk" there to accomadate the traffic.

We try to take service animals with us as much a possible. However there is no room in most EMS helicopters to do this. We also have to think about safety when putting an injured animal in an aircraft. I have transported service animals by ground before and it was good for everyone involved. Also there has to be someone at the hospital willing to care for the animal if its owners injures prevent it. I hope she has a full recovery soon.

I believe the entire street of Valley Blvd. needs sidewalks all the way from Curry to Tucker. There are many children who walk this route after school. I also see families pushing their babies in strollers with the rest of their children following in a row. Ive seen a women on her motorized scooter (wheelchair) making her way on Valley Blvd. too. Its just SUCH AN UNSAFE pedestrian path to take. Especially when our beautiful sun is setting!!!! During those certain 15 -30 minutes as the sun is setting it is almost impossible to see where you are driving. I know that I personally have to try real hard to see the road. The City of Tehachapi needs to find a solution to this problem because it is a VERY BUSY ROAD. The city needs to make the investment of placing sidewalks along CURRY. Make it a safe place to walk for all our community.

P.S. When I was a high school student in Tehachapi I can remember a young girl getting hit on her bike and dying. Her brother attended school with me. His family was devastated.

Yes, we need a crosswalk! It's scary dodging traffic on Valley and sometimes you have to wait a long time before it clears up enough to cross. Everytime I walk down that way, I see several other people doing the same. Many of them, like me, have children with them. And without sidewalks, the crossings at Tucker and at Curry are inaccessible. I feel very bad for this woman and I hope she gets better soon. And I hope that this will show the city that having a safe place to cross Valley is important!

I had Bubba's but was not impressed. I could fix the same thing at home. What I want is a slow cooked, real BBQ with decent sides. A place that is fun to go to as well as eat at. Mat had mentioned he was looking for space and thought he found one.

Hey Mat--Famous Daves has the variety and flavor that is great. The atmosphere also contributes to it. They serve their "Feast" family style in a galvanized trash can lid (yes you read it right) and the place is decorated as well. Take a look and sample (in all your spare time! LOL) next time you are in Bakes. And as you know, BBQ does not always have to be with tradational tomato based sauce but many other flavors--Tropical Pineapple Mango BBQ is one of my favorite BBQ marinade for chicken.

You poor thing Lori......sometimes people like that don't want to change. Maybe she has the beginning of dementia. People with a mentally disabling disease can get feisty and angry.....sometimes just down right unbearable. I'm just going to take a wild guess here..... is she living without a spouse? Maybe she's really lonely and doesn't have any relatives that come visit. All that foliage your talking about that has overrun her yard, well, she did that subconsciously..... that was her "wall" not to let anyone "in". That was a really nice thing for you to bring her those cute little cakes that are so delicious for Christmastime. You were being a great neighbor. If you wanted to touch her what seems like a cold heart, maybe write a small simple note,stating that you were in no way talking to the officers about her. Give her the reason about Zeus. Then I would personally add that you want to be her friend. I don't know how many other neighbors you have around that know this lady, but maybe you could talk to them and ask them if they would be interested in a "yard clean up" for her. If the note thing works and she really sees how many people care about her well being maybe she'll warm up to all of you. Good luck on your endeavor and remember you're being a good nieghbor just by keeping her in your daily prayers.

She lives directly next door,we have a zero lot line, she is a recluse,her entire property is overgrown w/ foliage,security cameras,that actually work, are on every perimeter, & the gates are chained, & bolted.I see her maybe,6, times a year, If I catch her looking my way, I wave,she is extremely awnry.....etc. The other day, about 6 of our uniformed officers were trying to get her attention.Well, they succeeded. Due to her overgrown yard, she is in violation,they wanted to possibly discuss it w/her,anyway,....here she comes zooming out of her fortress, as though her wheels were on fire.( little rascal,) She saw me talking,....on my property, mind you,to the officer that wrights the citations, we got one because of Zeus, she thought we were talking about her. She started out calling me the " B" word, they actually had to block her from me,continued on w/ how for 3 years,(we've lived here 8) I've harassed her, & tricked her, she decided she liked, "Slimy B*%ch," the best.

I have no clue, what she has created about me in her mind,we used to get along,decent. She is a bit, "off," I just feel bad that she is locked up in her house,absolutely, not one visitor in 8 years,& she's old, on top of pissed off.

Seriously,I believe any effort to calm her, will really aggravate her, so good neighbor,any suggestions?

Well, this is the first night that I had him stay over at my sisters for the night and I left him there to spend the night with my mom. I could see he didn't want me to leave him...but, it's time to start letting go now. I'll be visiting him more frequently than I normally visit my hometown. My BIL is great with him, he's a contractor and he's is remodeling their home, so Fred is getting some hands on experience with that as well.

Jewels-this is just a guess,cause my memories of those incidents is hazy,though I recall stabbing too,but I'd guess that those that were responsible in the cases denied everything as they were leaving town and those who knew what happened"didn't want to get involved".Add to that the likelihood that those questioned lied to cover their own butts-what can one really expect to happen?Most murderers don't just confess even when questioned.If all of the witnesses were under the influence and or lying,it would be really hard to ever prove anything.It kinda goes with the territory.Some situations lend themselves to unprosecutable homicides.Being involved with drugs is one of those situations.

I'm in Porterville, been here since Sunday, getting my son in the swing of things here. We got him enrolled in a homeschool setting. We got a phone call today telling us he was accepted and that school starts Sept 1. I think things will be alright for him. He is much more confident about it than he was 2 days ago. I really appreciate all of you who supports me and left comments. It definitely has made this easier for me. I may hang out til Friday. It's still really hard to let go. And being "home" with my mom and sisters is really making it harder to leave. (among other things). I have to be back at work on Monday....so reality time will be rearing it's ugly head soon enough. Awsmom I have always been a supporter of the hospital..........But not a great supporter of some of the board members........Blame needs to lie with those making the decisions...............TK can come on here and divert all and any responsibility for going with a type of construction that at the time was very Questionable..................Katrina had nothing to do with the poor decisions that the previous board members made........................Do I still hold out hope that a new hospital will be built, Yes I do....We need a Hospital..............When the board put the 15 million Dollar bond in front of the voters most people I know did not think it was enough..........

Building costs aren't rising as fast and furious as they did after Katrina and the lending explosion but you're right that it does cost a lot to build, anything. The newly hired project manager has been in on large, public construction jobs and it will be interesting to hear what he thinks. The figures in the paper are $1.5 million to $2 million per bed as a general measure. So for a 25-bed hospital (the most allowed for a Critical Access facility), today's building cost is estimated at $37.5 to 50 million. It would be great to see other recently built small hospitals, but there aren't any in California. That's why the original plans were being expedited through OSHPD and had so much attention from legislators, construction firms, and investors. We were going to have the first district hospital built according to the new seismic laws. Unfortunately, it is easier to find recently closed hospitals than recently built hospitals in California.

The dejure government won't be part of society until enough people understand it. The dejure government and the defacto (military) government has to work together. The states, countys, and townships used to be the dejure government, in the distant past, and worked with the Federal (Wash. D.C., defacto) government. Now they are under the Federal government.

Those in the defacto government may not want a permanent record of their violation of the true law, or they may respect the true law, and see the need for a return to the true law. Very few, if any, military personnel want Communism, which can function only under military jurisdiction. Everyone with a SS# is under military jurisdiction. Sufficiently demonstrating that I am not under military jurisdiction is difficult. The public doesn't know about this. Lawyers operate under color of law (the defacto, military government) and don't want to discuss the other jurisdiction. Look up dejure government, and the other legal terms mentioned, in a law dictionary. Under the dejure government, you do something wrong when you do something unconscionable. You can be brought to court to answer for it.

Your last post makes it sound as if Military Jurisdiction is just a phrase attached to one end of chart of regulatory practice, with "Libertarian/Anarchism" on one end where very few, or no governmental regulatory or police power resides, and "Military Jurisdiction" on the other with a highly regulated, totalitarian government.

I thought that Military Jurisdiction was something you could individually opt-out of. Can you do that, or not? And if you answer that and my earlier question "are we under military jurisdiction now"?, then I'll be able to address yours.
