I was wondering if anyone out there knew how to contact the (former) management of Making Waves? May 13th of this year they sold me a 3-month unlimited membership....May 31st their business license was cancelled....and by the first week of June they had completely moved out. The Better Business Bureau tried to contact them on my behalf but had no response. If anyone has information to help me it would be much appreciated.

Top Five Favorite Books

I thought we'd try the "Top Five" list focusing on books. If you could only take five books with you on to a deserted island, what would they be? Oh, and your list can only include one trilogy. Again, here's my list in no particular order:
Time Enough for Love, by Robert A. Heinlein - I loved the Lazarus Long character, and the way Heinlein described the downsides of living forever.
The Stand, by Stephen King - I think this is King's best work. He released it again with several chapters included that had been originally edited out; made it even better.
Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand - I know what some may thinking: "A progressive likes Rand?" But I think everyone should be exposed to her philosophy, whether they end up adopting it or not. Besides, I had never really been exposed to intellectual atheism before reading this book in high school. It opened my eyes to some eventual truths, much later down the road.
Another Roadside Attraction, by Tom Robbins - This is the first book I read of his, but I love them all. Robbins has a way of writing that seems convoluted at first, but it all ties up in the end. Makes you want to start the book over again, just to see how he does it.
The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, by Stephen R. Donaldson - This is my trilogy pick. It was a hard choice, between these books & the LOTR trilogy. I chose the "Covenant" books because of the way Donaldson sets the traditional hero tale on its head. Thomas Covenant is a mean, sad, cruel, leprosy-ridden hero. The reader still ends up respecting him in the end. And there's was a nice piece of info I discovered while researching this blog: Donaldson has begun a new set of books based on this story! I just found out what the hubby is getting for our 25th anniversary......
So, as before, it's your turn! Be kind to others' choices, and root for your favorites!

Anyone know spiders?

Does anyone know about spiders? The spiders up here are different than the ones I'm used to. I have found several small brown spiders that have little white spots on them around the outside of my house. I tried to look them up online, but I got way too creeped out! My mom thinks they are Brown House Spiders AKA Brown Widows, which are not terribly dangerous and rarely bite. Are those common up here? I am pretty sure they are not brown recluses.
The last one I found was on my son's truck that he plays with on the patio. He was trying to grab the spider (eek!!!!) so I would like to know what I'm dealing with!
(BTW, don't post pictures of spiders, because I'll freak, lol! I admit to a touch of arachnophobia!)

Why Congress don't want to drill.

You will be perplexed by this story as to how much they want people to bleed. And before you think there couldn't be some who want to hurt the country like this to help the environment, I know someone at work that thinks the high prices are good for the same reasons. In fact he has been preaching to me about him liking the high price to get us off oil and does not care what affect it has on truckers, commuters and number one of his list, people and businesses that use SUVs and trucks.

Some members of congress support illegals guilty of ID theft.

I can't believe that some members of congress support the illegal aliens that are guilty of ID theft..........If the illegal alien committed crimes while already committing a crime by being here illegal then that Illegal alien should do hard time for those crimes. It's time that we hold these criminals accountable for their crimes.
''For years, the chief punishment for immigrants caught working illegally in the United States has been deportation. But prosecutors are now bringing criminal charges that include aggravated identity theft, which can bring a hefty prison sentence. Immigrant rights groups and some members of Congress are challenging the practice.
A congressional panel is meeting Thursday to look at the controversial fallout from an immigration raid on an Iowa meat-packing plant in May. Not long ago, illegal immigrants swept up in such raids faced administrative charges and swift deportation. But in recent years, the Bush administration has started bringing criminal charges against immigrants who use fake documents, including stolen Social Security numbers. ''

Rc hobbies in Tehachapi

Well i have been into the rc hobby thing for some time now. there are a few people i have meet in this town that have intrest in the hobby but very little. It seems to be something that not many do here.
Simply there is no local hobby shop that carries rc products for planes, and helis Ect. there are plenty of train hobby shops but that is there just all trains.
Seems with such a big area with all the open areas there would be a place to fly rc planes or helicopters that is closer to town most all the flight fields are in other areas way out of town. with gas prices rising it would be nice to have a local flying field.
there is a flying field in bear valley but again that is for the local residents out there and people in town cant just go out there and fly a plane whenever they want its a closed community.
A friend started a web site for rc hobbies in tehachapi but it appears to not be very successful no one has registered on it or posted anything to it. So it appears that it will go the way side. Seems strange with such a rich history of aviation in the surrounding areas that there isnt one local rc flying field for the community to enjoy.

While lunacy abounds in our government and throughout the world, on August 23 we will be treated to the annual Rubber Ducky Race here in the Kern River Valley. The duckys will be released into the river at Kernville and people will cheer on their favorite duck. It is comforting to find this degree of sanity in the midst of so much madness, and I find it a cheerful note sounded as though in defiance of the cacophony of maddening noise and bad news all about.
But speaking of cacophony, among the blessings I enjoy here in my small part of the Sequoia National Forest is not having some brainless twit cranking on the thumping noise that rattles the windows of neighbors often accompanying the abuse of illicit drugs. Those that live among such barbarians or are subjected to this noise from cars in traffic have my utmost sympathy. I spent many years beginning in childhood as a musician and singer and know the difference between noise and music. But then I was raised by and among those with civilized good manners and taught what used to be courteous thoughtfulness toward others, something increasingly lacking in today’s America.
Homosexuals have promoted a brainless term homophobic as though anyone with a normal revulsion to perversion has an irrational fear of homosexuals. One has to suppose the homosexual propagandists depend on people being ignorant of what the term phobia really means. In just the same way the Devil has succeeded in passing off brainless, mind-numbing noise as music.
A scene that used to occur in some old comic strips was that of a child being given a toy drum. Now kids do have a way of banging on things and there was a reason why Tin Pan Alley got its name. But the comic strips would have someone eventually accidentally stepping on the child’s toy drum in order to stop the incessant, banging noise. These days it seems some people can’t distinguish the difference between noise and music. But as a matter of fact I never could stand the noise of Gene Krupa no matter how many people of my generation called it music. To my ears, his noise was little different than that of some drugged out people today.
Admittedly some of the music from the old days was just plain fun, the music of Spike Jones and the songs of Phil Harris and Tom Lehrer and the old Red Buttons song Strange Things are Happening comes to mind when I consider the blatantly obvious efforts of so many in the MSM shouting they want Obama as president, though in my opinion the Devil controls the American media as effectively as Hitler and Goebbels did that of Germany. TV and Hollywood devoted to noise, mayhem, violence, destruction and perversion it is only to be expected the Devil is the master choreographer and leads the orchestra, and his is not full of sound and fury signifying nothing, but quite the contrary. It’s the Devil’s work to make people go brain-dead through noise and drugs, to cause people to become callous to civilized manners and living.
I was once employed as a machinist in Culver City. The place had a large sheet metal shop and the din was so horrific I wondered the workers didn’t all go deaf! These days I suppose OSHA would require ear protection in such an environment, but it seems America is overwhelmed by the din of that sheet metal shop.
It does seem to me people are becoming more uncomfortable left alone with nothing but their thoughts, though they know silence is golden and everyone needs some amount of solitude and quiet time to nourish their souls and a healthy mind. But it is becoming increasingly difficult to escape the noise surrounding them. My last school contract position was as a Stanislaus County Resource Specialist, and I don’t doubt the rise in autism diagnoses along with some other things leading to the increase of using prescription drugs to modify behavior in children has somewhat to do with the noise infants and children are exposed to today.
However, since even the archangel Michael dared not upbraid Satan I’ll give the Evil One credit for not being stupid; otherwise it would strike me as exceedingly curious the GOP could not do better than McCain. I don’t wonder the media has avoided showing much of McCain since he does give the appearance of having one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. Not quit cadaverous, but pretty close to the work of a mortician.
Me? I’m going to focus on things like the Rubber Ducky Race and other things if not of greater importance are at least not the workings of lunatics and the Devil and count my lucky stars I am removed from the noise surrounding so many either unable or unwilling to escape it.

Since I moved to Tehachapi from the Bay Area, I’ve had a hard time finding local businesses. I’m so used to getting all of my information from the internet, so if a business doesn’t have a website, and doesn’t advertise online, I have a hard time finding it.

Right now, I’m looking for a good hair salon, and trying to find a restaurants that deliver, besides pizza places.

 Anyone have some suggestions?

Three women: one engaged, one married and one a mistress, are chatting about their relationships and decided to amaze their men. That night all three will wear black leather bras, stiletto heels and a mask over their eyes. After a few days they meet up for lunch.
The engaged woman: The other night when my boyfriend came over he found me with a black leather bodice, tall stilettos and a mask. He saw me and said, 'You are the woman of my life. I love you.' Then we made love all night long.

The mistress: Me too! The other night I met my lover at his office and I was wearing the leather bodice, heels, mask over my eyes and a raincoat. When I opened the raincoat he didn't say a word, but we had wild sex all night.
The married woman: I sent the kids to stay at my mother's house for the night. When my husband came home I was wearing the leather bodice, black stockings, stilettos and a mask over my eyes. As soon as he came in the door and saw me he said, 'What's for dinner, Batman?'
