For the sake of public disclosure, I did not vote yes on this project.  While I believe wholeheartedly that Chief Kermode has done a fantastic job since he began as our Chief, unfortunately I cannot get behind this project.  At present our city police force is taking up 45% of the City’s budget.  We just hired two new officers and purchased more vehicles.  One of the new hire officers is to ‘backfill’ for the Student Resources Officer as this officer carries out his duties with the TUSD. This SRO, with salary and benefits, costs the City approximately $76,646 per year.  Under the contract, the TUSD will pay ½ of this cost or approximately $36,823 per year.  IF the TUSD can obtain grant funds for this program, their out-of-pocket expense will be reduced by the amount of grant funds.  IF the City or the TPD can obtain grant funds, these funds will be used to reduce the TUSD’s out-of-pocket expenses, NOT the City or...
