I am compelled to comment on recent Letters to the Editor. I will paraphrase each point and then respond.  Point 1. financial solvency should not be a top issue for the hospital administration Financial solvency must be a top issue. If the hospital district cannot meet its financial obligations, such as payroll, then it will be forced to close its doors. Point 2. the Board should approve the contract offer made by GEMCare The HMO contract issue hinges solely on covering expenses. The hospital district cannot make deals with HMO’s that do not cover the costs to provide the service. The money coming in must at least match the money going out. Point 3. the hospital should run like the fire department The fire department is wholly funded by tax money. The hospital receives a minuscule portion of property tax for operational expenses: 0.002180 per $1000 assessed value. The Measure J Bond money must only be used to put up the new hospital; not a penny goes towards...
