Every now and then I catch myself committing a grievous error in my grammar.  I cringe to think of the errors that slip by me!  I hate when people mix up their homonyms too.  I'm very frustrated when I catch myself using the wrong "there" or "its".  I majored in Writing, for heavens sake!  It shows how easy it is to forget how to write when it isn't practiced everyday. On a similar subject, my husband was trying to convince me that "ain't" was going to become an accepted word someday.  It doesn't make sense!  It's trashy!  It it that difficult to say "isn't" or "aren't"?! I remember reading Huck Finn and learning about the boldness of Mark Twain for writing colloquially.  At the time, it was groundbreaking.  Now it's common for prose writers to use grammar (improperly) to further their story.  A great book to illustrate this is "Random Acts of Senseless Violence" by Jack Womack.  Poets have been breaking grammar rules for decades; it's great to see writers do it in...
