Haight Ashbury is a good place to get an old record or a t-shirt. Lots of shops trading on beads and psychedelia. Its been a long time since I was there, it was pretty thick with panhandlers then. The houses lining it are very nice victorians, now worth lots and lots of money and the residents were actively trying to reduce the number of "what happened to the party?" folks that showed up thinking it wasn't too late to get some free lovin' - or at least a free sandwich! But that does bring you to Golden Gate Park which has a lot of things you probably are reading about in your brochure. Art museums, and botanical gardens, and the like. You can have a nice afternoon there with some cheese and wine and whoever your "thou" is!
