My husband had a similar experience in the Methodist church. He went every week, his mother played organ, his dad was very involved in church business, and my husband was a "good Christian kid". It wasn't until Jr. High that someone asked him if he'd made a decision for Christ. I agree, that parents are too quick to assume their child has been saved, simply because they took them to Sunday school each week.   I do have to argue with you on one point though. You said" Still, not withstanding it's weaknesses, it (the Bible) remains the best source of information of God dealing with people that we have on hand".  Yes, the Bible was written by man... but inspired by God. The words in the Bible are true and perfect.  A perfect God would not allow His Truth to be erroneous or weak. I believe anything not contained in the Bible is not meant for us to know. Sorry... just felt the need to defend the Holy Scriptures as what they are; The perfect Word of God.
