Here is a great archive of free USGS topos, they can be downloaded and printed.  The 7.5 minute provide the most detail.  Tehachapi is in the range of 35,118.  http://archive.casil.ucdavis.edu/casil/maps/drg/ If you are a Mac user, there is a great program called MacGPS Pro.  You can import the USGS topos and mosaic them, and add in waypoints and tracks from a gps.  http://www.macgpspro.com/ National Geographic makes a waterproof paper for inkjet printers and map printing. http://www.waterproof-paper.com/adventure-paper.html I haven't done much hiking around Tehachapi, most of my hiking has been done in BVS.  I've made a website, (that is over due for some updates!) of the hiking trails in BVS.  It's not complete yet, my work schedule has prevented me from hiking for quite a while.  I love hiking but it's been years since I've backpacked, modern life has gotten in the way of having fun! http://www.bvstrails.com/
