Frankly, in one person's opinion, I feel that Downtown Tehachapi area already has too many "quaint gift shops". When I have visitors, they ask to go shopping in the area and we go from one shop to the other, and they all look the same. We need diversity of retail shopping to make Downtown worth visiting and hanging around. Where people WALK and not just drive through. More restaurants (NO, no more Mexican one's, please). An In 'N Out Burger would be swell. Even a Red Lobster,  a Chinese Restaurant or a nice Delicatessen (Italian or Jewish could make me drool). How about a bakery where you could smell the bread and goodies from a block away? And outside seating where people could rest and just people watch. This would give them time to visit many different places and be fed and rested and refreshed enough to continue shopping! It's called a "self fullfilling prophecy!" Jim Richards
