Flags, flowers and freedom were the highlights of last week’s Memorial Day observance in Tehachapi.The graves of veterans decorated with flags and poppies were a quiet reminder of what the day represented. A public observance held in Central Park in the morning was sponsored by the VFW, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary.Bonnie Gladden, president of the  VFW Auxiliary, and members of the auxiliary spearheaded the event and arranged for the local Boy Scout troops to give arriving guests a small American flag and a program.The singing of the national anthem was led by Tracy Barns and the invocation was led by Father Wes Clair, National Guard chaplain. An address by Mayor Ed Grimes added to the patriotic spirit of the ceremony.
