Some local high school rodeo riders are going to the big show. Four area riders, including two from Tehachapi High School, qualified for the National High School Rodeo Championships in Springfield, IL, to be held July 23-28. Sophomore Devon Gibson, of Tehachapi, won first place in Pole Bending at the California State Championship held in Bishop at the end of June and advances to the Nationals. She also competed in Cutting in Bishop. Senior Taylor McIntosh, also of Tehachapi, is making his second trip to the National Finals as he won the Bare Back Riding title. He also competed in Saddle Bronc Riding. Two riders from the Lancaster area advance to the Nationals - sophomore Jordan Berry in Pole Bending and junior Taylor Sanchez in Barrel Racing. Also from Lancaster, Alysse Sanderson made State Queen. Those going to the Nationals will compete against riders from across the United States as well as Canada and Australia.
