Tehachapi Martial Arts Center celebrated the 6th annual National Martial Arts Day on Saturday, Oct. 13 with a kick-a-thon, hot dog barbeque, raffles, and demonstrations. The event began with a kick-a-thon in the morning to raise money for Project Action, a charity that provides scholarships to at-risk children to participate in extra-curricular activities. The students kicked for a solid hour and were attempting to break the record that was set previously. Most of the students kicked well over 1,000 times, and some of them kicked over 3,000 times in one hour. After the kick-a-thon there was a hot dog lunch with food items donated by Albertson's and Save Mart. The boy scouts performed a flag ceremony. Next, there were demonstrations from the many classes offered at TMAC. There were boards broken by some of the youngest members aged 3 to 5-years-old who attend the "Kick Start" class. One of the highlights was watching a black-belt break five bricks with a single hit....
