The students at Heritage Oak School celebrated Reformation Day on Friday, Oct. 26, by dressing in period costumes reminiscent of the early 1500s.  “We wanted the students to see and feel what it was like to live during this very interesting period in our history,” explained Vanessa Cross, administrator of the school. This Reformation Day honored William Tyndale, a Bible scholar in England who graduated from Oxford University with a mastery in seven languages. He subsequently felt called upon by God to translate the Bible into English so that all people could read it. The church at the time felt that only the clergy could properly interpret Scripture, thereby denying Tyndale's request to translate the Bible. Tyndale fled to Germany where he translated the Old Testament and found willing sympathizers who printed his work. Copies of the English Bible were then smuggled back to England to an eager public.
