The accolades for swimmer Michael Halaska have been many and for the second straight year, the local athletic standout turned heads on a national stage with impressive times recorded in various events at the NCSA Junior National Championships in Orlando, Fla. At the NCSA nationals, Halaska competed with the Bakersfield Swim Club and went against 1,300 swimmers (18-under) from all across the nation, competing in the 200 breaststroke (2:09:46 - dropped one second), 400 individual medley (4:04:69 - dropped six seconds) and 200 individual medley (1:54:28, dropped two seconds). Halaska made the finals in the 200 IM, placing 20th overall. A senior at Tehachapi High School, Halaska has just begun his fourth season with the Warriors and is looking to help Tehachapi to back-to-back league championships.
