With more than 75 participants taking the Coy Burnett track field in early March, Jacobsen Middle School wrapped up their season qualifier early last month for the upcoming Desert Area Junior Olympics Track Meet in Ridgecrest.
In preparation for the Ridgecrest meet, Tehachapi held a duel with Joshua Middle School, capturing some new school records by various student athletes.
“We practiced through freezing weather, wind, rain, and snow but the kids did well,” said head coach Amy Lang. “Some our new athletes should be very exciting to watch, they are extremely fast. We have some returnees from last year who should also do quite well.”
The new school records broken included AJ Snider in the high jump 4 ft 8 in and triple jump 29 ft 10 in, Paige Bennett in the 400m 1:09.50, Selena Demus in the 200m 29.66, and the team of Brian Castaneda, Sam Hawksley, Justin Hedberg, Ray Hoiser in the 4x100 relay with a time of 53.78.
