The Venomous Snake Research Center researches the changes in snake color, pattern, behavior and environment of snakes from all around the world. Our current focus is of snakes indigenous to California.
Our goal is to educate the public about the importance of reptiles in nature, human impact on their environment and how to live in harmony with these unique creatures.
We do educational lectures for Schools, Hospitals, Police Departments, Utility Companies, Fire Departments, Clubs and other Professional Organizations.
The only species of rattlesnake indigenous to Tehachapi area is the Northern Pacific Rattlesnake (Crotalus viridis oreganus). It is a MYTH that Mojave rattlesnakes and Timber Rattlesnakes are in the Tehachapi area, Mojave rattlesnakes like it much warmer and can be found in the deserts of California, Timber rattlesnakes are not native to California, and can only be found in the Eastern North America and are endangered.
