About Lara
I'm a graduate student studying English literature who is on temporary hiatus from the books and back-biting to take a course in baby-having 101. :) Yes, the husband and I are expecting our first child in December, 2006 and I'm feeling simultaneously like Ripley in the Alien movies and a person who is doing something really rare, remarkable, and important. ... To make money to buy too many books -- but really, is there such a thing as too many books? -- I do PT consulting work for non-profit organizations; sometimes I am a grant writer, sometimes a technical writer, sometimes I just make very pretty PowerPoint presentations for them. I've been in Tehachapi almost four years now and have only had two mishaps with skunks. Through those mishaps I have learned a very valuable lesson: no matter how pathetic your dog looks after he's been sprayed, it is NOT a wise idea to let him in the house. I also learned that tomato juice doesn't deskunk but instead makes your critter smell like a bloody mary with a skunk in it. Eww.
