About J.J.
I am such a lucky person. Married 19 years, mom of the most delightful, lovely, funny 14 year old baby girl, my family are my whole world. As a writer I get to spend my days in the weird rich land of my imagination, leaving my body here to do laundry while I battle shape-changing giant squids and huge insect demons, fall helplessly in love with people I shouldn't and get lost in the Night World. To my continual surprise, squid medusas and pod people wriggle out the ends of my fingers and turn into the strangest clay beads. I like Thai iced tea with cream, old Vincent Price movies, Santa Barbara and world lullabies. After growing up in the concrete jungle of inner city Long Beach, beautiful, snowy, tree-filled Tehachapi is a daily paradise to me. In my secret heart, I would like to climb Mt. Everest. I think cats are the greatest thing in the entire universe; I think freedom and equality for all people of every gender, sexual orientation, religion and ethnicity is worth dying for. I don't like wearing high heels or dresses, 50's music, Rush Limbaugh, mean dogs or mayonnaise. Sometimes, when no one else is home, I dance in the living room with my 140 year old wax dolls and various hobgoblins, and the copper dust from our bare feet stays on the wooden floor for days. The Bargain Angel loves me! The Traffic Ticket Angel does not. To me the greatest institution in the country is a public library: knowledge, adventures, escape from ordinary life and the future itself await you beyond its doors! Turn off your T.V. and READ! I loved my cats Otis and Hannah with my whole soul, and they loved me back with their whole souls; the days we shared together are pirate treasure to me now. In my secret heart, I would like to join the Peace Corps and care for poor people in a foreign land for the rest of my life. I had the sweetest Grandma in the world. I am amazed every time I watch it snow. I am such a lucky person.
