Quilt winners at the Library

Congratulations to the winners of the quilt at the Tehachapi Branch of the Kern County Library. The Stawski family won this beautiful quilt from the opportunity drawing during National Library Week. The quilt was donated by the Friends of the Tehachapi Library and all proceeds will go to the Friends group.

Ice cream and reading a successful mix at the library

Over the Spring Break, the Tehachapi Branch of the Kern County Library put on the Spring Break Mini Reading Program. Children from preschool to 8^th grade were encouraged to reading 5 books between March 18 to April 5 to earn a free ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery. The program was a great success with 233 participants taking home a reading record and 145 completing the record and receiving a coupon for their ice cream.

Thank you to Cold Stone Creamery for offering such a great prize for reading. The library staff appreciates all their efforts to make this mini reading program a success. Thank you to the Friends of the Tehachapi Library for sponsoring Jeff Lee from Steve Martin’s Working Wildlife for a great program during Spring Break.

This summer all Tehachapi school aged readers can look forward to the Catch The Reading Bug @ the Library Summer Reading Program. During the summer program children who read 10 books receive a free paperback book. There will be a great line of programs too.

Library to host two computer classes in April

Two Saturday computer classes are scheduled at the Tehachapi Branch of the Kern County Library for the month of April. On April 19 from 1 to 3pm, branch supervisor Kris Duke will show participants how to use the online catalog and some of the databases offered on the Kern County Library’s Electronic Resources. This hands on class will prepare patron’s to use the catalog and find the items on the shelf. The database side of the class will be demonstrated to show the great information aailable offered by the Kern County Library.

Volunteer Phil Meisinger will hold his class called Personal Computing and the Internet on April 26 from 1 to 3pm. He will start his class with a nice Power Point presentation and then move on to assisting class members with their specific needs.

April programs at the library

The month of April is bringing a great line up of programs at the Tehachapi Branch of the Kern County Library. The week of April 14 – 19 is National Library Week.

The theme is Join the Circle of Knowledge @ the library. During this week patrons will enjoy coffee, juice and homemade cookies each day. There will be an opportunity drawing for a quilt made and donated by Barbara Zervas. Proceeds from the drawing will go toward activities with the Friends of the Tehachapi Library. Be sure to visit the Tehachapi Library during this week.

Starting this month, there will be two computer classes offered on the 3^rd and 4^th Saturday of each month. Both classes are from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. On April 19 Branch Supervisor Kris Duke will show how to use the online catalog and introduce a couple of the databases offered on the Kern County Library website. On April 26, volunteer Phil Meisinger will present his program on using personal computers and the Internet. The first hour of his program will be basic instruction and the second hour will be for helping the participants with specific questions.

Preschool Storytime is offered every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. This 30 minute program is for children from 3 to 5 years old but all ages are welcomed.

The Friends of the Tehachapi Library will be holding their monthly meeting at the library at 7:00pm on April 28. The Friends sponsors all of the programming throughout the year and can always use new members.

WILD ANIMALS AT THE LIBRARY!

Wild animals will be coming to the Tehachapi Branch of the Kern County Library. Jeff Lee from Steve Martin's Working Wildlife from Frazier Park will bring seven wild and wonderful animals on Wednesday March 26, at 2:30 p.m. Listen to great stories about each animal and see the up close.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Tehachapi Library and is part of the Spring Break Mini Reading Program. Pick up a reading record from the Tehachapi Branch Library and read five books. Return the record to the library and earn a free ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery.

MINI READING PROGRAM COMING SOON TO THE LIBRARY

Get ready to do some fun reading and earn a free Cold Stone Creamery ice cream for your efforts. The Tehachapi Branch of the Kern County Library will holding a Spring Break Mini Reading Program.

Starting Tuesday, March 18, pick up a reading record to take home and record five books you are reading. Return your record by Saturday, April 5 and earn your free ice cream!

To add to the fun there will also be a great program during Spring Break. On Wednesday March 26 at 2:30 p.m., Jeff Lee will be coming to present and talk about seven wild animals. Sponsored by the Friends of the Tehachapi Library, Jeff Lee comes from Steve Martin's Working Wildlife, out of Frazier Park. Jeff has visited our library before and always puts on a great program.

MINI READING PROGRAM COMING SOON TO THE LIBRARY

For all preschool through 8th grade aged children in the Tehachapi community:

The Tehachapi Branch of the Kern County Libray is holding a Spring Break Mini Reading Program. The Mini Reading Program will begin Tuesday March 18, which is the week before Tehachapi School's Spring Break. It will end Saturday April 5, giving all participants three weeks to read. All participants will read five books during this time period and earn a free ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery. Children may pick up a reading record at the Tehachapi Library starting March 18 and return it by April 5. Both library books and books from home my be read to be included on the reading record.

February activities at the Tehachapi Library

The Tehachapi Branch of the Kern County Library has a nice slate of programs scheduled for the month of February.

Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. is Preschool Storytime. On Thursday. Feb. 7 there will be special storytime called the ABCs of Good Nutrition. This storytime is part of the “One Book One Bakersfield...One Kern” events centered on the book, Fast Food Nation, by Eric Schlosser. Food stories and nutritious snacks will be served.

Saturday, Feb. 16 from 1 to 3 p.m. is the monthly Computer Class. This month, branch supervisor Kris Duke will show how to use the online library catalog. The mysteries of ValleyCat will be revealed. Kris Duke will also demonstrate how to use a few of the many databases offered on the Kern Conuty Library's homepage.

The Friends of the Tehachapi Library will hold their monthly meeting on Monday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. at the library. The public is welcomed to attend and new members are always needed.

January Activities at the Library

The Tehachapi Branch of the Kern County Library will be offering several programs. The Saturday Computer Class will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on January 19, 2008. The topic of this class will be announced.

Saturday Jan. 26, at 10:30 a.m., local author Vicki Montes will have a book talk and signing for her second book Camouflage Venom.

On Monday ,Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. the Friends of the Tehachapi Library will hold their monthly meeting and all are welcomed to attend.

Preschool Storytime continues on Thursdays at 10:30am. This storytime is for children from three to 5-years-old and lasts about 30 minutes.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM THE LIBRARY

The staff of the Tehachapi Branch of the Kern County Library wishes everyone in the community of Tehachapi a very Happy Holiday Season.

The Friends of the Tehachapi Library sponsored a wonderful performance by the chamber quartet Four with a Score on Saturday, Dec 1. The staff and patrons were treated to a two hour program and Four with a Score played all of our favorite Christmas and holiday music. The library staff has displayed many of the holiday fiction and some nonfiction books for our patrons to check out. Music and reading a good Christmas story are great ways to get in the holiday spirit.

The Tehachapi Branch of the Kern County will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 25, and on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008.
