The Tehachapi Warrior track team took advantage of its first home meet of the year this past week, posting team first place results in varsity boys, varsity girls and frosh/soph boys action.
“It was nice that we finally had a home track meet in Tehachapi,” said track head coach Bob Papac. “Overall, we’re pleased with how things turned out and we’re very pleased with the results.”
In frosh/soph boys action, Dan Rakowski took first place honors in the long jump and the 400 meter dash, while Josh Snider won the 600-meter run and the 800-meter run. In hurdles, Wade Walace won the 110-meter competition while Louie Olofson took first place honors at 300 meters.
Overall team scoring had Tehachapi winning the meet with 88 points, followed by Arvin with 56, Wasco with 49 and Bakersfield Christian with 10.
In varsity girls action, Mel Koenig helped Tehachapi accumulate a vast wealth of team points with victories in the high jump, while also taking second in the 100-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. Alyssa Fechner also logged in a trifecta of individual first place performances, winning the 100-meter dash, triple jump, and 200-meter dash. Candace Galusha also brought home three first place honors in long distance running, winning the 3200-meter run, the 1600-meter run, and the 800-meter run.
The team score tally had the varsity girls winning the meet in a runaway with 99 points, followed by Arvin with 49, Bakersfield Christian with 40 and Wasco with 33.
The varsity boys looked to gather their team point totals with the strength events, with Alek Taliulu and Mike Papac getting first and second, respectively, in shot put, with Papac taking first in discus followed by Tommy O’Brien, who took down a second place finish.
Warrior Eric Tercy also found his way to the medal stand on multiple events, taking second in the triple jump, third in the 100-meter dash, and third in the 4x100 relay team. J Weaver was also third on the 4x100 relay team, while also taking first in the 100-meter dash and third in the 200-meter dash. Mark Lemen won the 800-meter run, and took second in the 1600-meter run and third in the 400-meter dash.
The final day point total showed Tehachapi on top with 74 team points, with Wasco taking second with 49 and Arvin and Bakersfield Christian tied with 46 points each.
Tehachapi’s next track meet will be this Wednesday at Coy Burnett Field, with a start time set to be around 3:15 p.m.
“We have a lot of great talent here in Tehachapi,” said Papac. “We hope that everyone in the community can come support our athletes.”
