On April 5, Don Hunt wrote to the Tehachapi News and concluded that “environmentalists (who are usually Democrats) are the real danger to America."
Ignorance in any field is deplorable, including global warming. I am a registered Republican and I am dedicated to educating others about global warming. I have created a set of six executive briefs on global warming.

For each person who reads the six brief reports, I have committed to contribute $100 (up to 1000 people) to one of three carbon-offset fund non-profits. Hunt, or any other Tehachapian, who reads the briefs, can join hundreds of others who have directed us to contribute $100 in their honor.

I began as a skeptic but, after studying the issue intensely for seven months, became intensely concerned. Consider just two points where Hunt is mistaken.
First, global warming is a proven theory. In 2004, a UCSD professor reviewed 10 years of climate research papers. Of 928 reports collected, 696 endorsed global warming as a genuine concern (the remaining 232 addressed only study methods). No report, in a competent scientific journal, denied the reality of global warming.

Second, projections for temperature rises over the next 100 years are many times the .8 ºF that Hunt asserts. But focusing on the global average temperature rise is misguided, since the temperature rises at the poles are many times greater than global averages. The north pole temperature is already six degrees warmer than 100 years ago.

There is an extremely dangerous feedback loop that can create a tipping point: when the poles warm and the ice melts, the earth looses the valuable solar reflectivity of the ice, which then speeds up the atmospheric warming.
I encourage Hunt and anybody who wishes to educate themselves about Global Warming to visit: www.thehcf.org.
