On April 27, the Kern County Sheriff's Department SWAT team conducted a training exercise in the Mountain Meadows/Old West Ranch area.
The exercise incorporated skills needed to conduct movement in mountainous areas. SWAT team members spent the day hiking and simulating stalking a suspect, rescuing a hostage and using GPS to navigate the terrain.
The training was organized by Sgt. Giuffre of the Tehachapi substation, who is a leader on the SWAT team.
Off-road vehicle operationOn April 22, deputies from the Tehachapi substation conducted an off-road vehicle enforcement operation in the Golden Hills, Oak Knolls and Mountain Meadows area. No riders were located.
“I'd like to think it was due to them respecting private property rights, but in reality the weather was bad, so no one was out,” Giuffre said.
Operations are being planned for various days and times in the upcoming weeks. Violators will be cited and their motorcycles/off-road vehicles seized.
