Marvin R. Sprayberry Jr., 54, passed away at his home in Tehachapi on April 21. Marvin's sudden passing created an empty space in the many souls of those who knew and loved him. He will not be forgotten in part, thanks to his sharp wit and being a little rough around the edges, which made him the man he was.

Marvin was born and raised in Bakersfield and graduated from South High School. He dedicated 33 years of his life to the Southern Pacific Railroad, which later became Union Pacific where he worked as a machinist.

He had many things in life he enjoyed and a few that he loved: the Tehachapi skyline, his family and friends and his many loyal animals, especially Sunny and Jack. Marvin could often be seen riding down the road on the first love of his life, his Harley Davidson.

Marvin was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Sr.; his mother, Dorothy; and his son “Little Marvin,” Marvin R. Sprayberry III, whom he missed dearly.

Marvin leaves behind his wife, Lynn Sprayberry of Tehachapi; daughter, Johnna Sprayberry of Bakersfield; daughter, Jodie Sprayberry and her husband Tomas Frodis of San Diego; son, Jason Sprayberry and wife Kay of Virginia; son, Shawn Sprayberry and wife Ericka; son, Aaryn Sprayberry of Bakersfield; and daughter-in-law, Nadja Sprayberry of Germany. He is also survived by his three grandchildren; Grace, Rolando and Emma.

In addition to the many family members, Marvin leaves behind countless friends who considered him more of a brother than a friend.

Graveside services were held on Friday, April 28, at 1 p.m. in the Tehachapi West Side Cemetery. Services provided by Wood Family Funeral Services.
