The first of May brought out 98 members and three guests of the Tehachapi Mountain Quilters Guild to hear the presentation by Juanita Swartz who showed her quilts made over the past 30 years. Swartz specializes in hand appliqué flowers. Her quilts have been included in a number of calendars and won prizes in state and national shows.
Swartz, who will soon celebrate her 81st birthday, says that she is not ready to hang up her needle and that “fabric speaks to me and I follow it’s lead to make quilt designs.”
“Just Dreaming” is the theme for the year’s challenge quilt. Packets are ready and finished quilts will be judged by the members at the November meeting. All quilters will be judged within their various levels of ability.
The guild not only provides outstanding programs for members but is very involved in community affairs. In April, 35 philanthropic quilts were turned in by members. This month, members will be working on 15 lap quilts for the local hospital.
On May 15, a potluck and fellowship will be held at the home of Judy Saville. For more information, call 822-8319.
If you have been looking for something to do, for a place to fellowship with a group of women or for a way to serve other and would like more information about the Tehachapi Mountain Quilters, call Margaret Clark at 822-3381.
