On the same night that Jesus was arrested, He said to His disciples, "A new command I give to you: Love one another." He was making it very clear that, if we believe in Him, we will show love for each other.
The Bible says that Jesus demonstrated His love by dying for us even though we did not deserve it. Our Lord's love moved Him to sacrifice His own life so we could live with Him forever.
God's sacrificial love is like the love mothers have for their children.
Their love moves them to be compassionate, generous and kind.
Sometimes it seems very difficult for us to obey our Lord's command to love one another. When people are rude or inconsiderate, it may seem hard to show love to them.
To follow God's command, we must put Him first in our life. We need to remember how much He loves us and ask Him to give us strength to love others.
God's love, like the love of a caring mother, encourages us to love other people. We are led to care about others instead of only caring about our needs.
The love Jesus is asking us to show is a commitment to help other people.
This love does not lead us to ask, "Is this person worth it?" but instead to ask, "What can I do to help?"
We show love for people simply because God made them. We do not wait until a person proves that they deserve our love.
Love is a gift that we have been given by God. Love is also a gift that we are to give other people.
As we show God's love we are witnessing our faith and serving God. May God help us to follow His command and love one another.
