The second press release in as many weeks from the Kern County Department of Public Health warns of more children's jewelry distributed by Dollar General Stores, which may cause lead poisoning.
Doctor B. A. Jinadu, director of Public Health Services and health officer of Kern County, asks the public to voluntarily return the product to the store for a refund.
This time, according to the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), the necklaces are choker style. Silver coated clovers, crosses and hearts hang from either a black, maroon or blue velvet-like cord. The words “In Style” are printed on the front of the cardboard packaging and the UPC code, 041838140766 is on the back. (Visit

Imported from China, the jewelry began selling in the states between January 2003 and December 2005 at Dollar General Stores.
The press release reiterated that some inexpensive jewelry manufactured outside of the United States where little to no government control is present, can contain wide ranges of lead.
Parents and caretakers of children are warned not to let children put small, metallic objects in their mouths, such as jewelry or key rings.
If lead poisoning is suspected, consult with a physician or call the Kern County Lead Poisoning Prevention Program at 868-0511.
