On April 29, the LA Avengers took on the San Jose Dragons in a very exciting arena football game at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The halftime show was made up of 300 Jazzercisers from all over California, including local Jazzercisers Chris Duff, Petrishka Castillo, Kathy Armendariz and also junior high students Ashli Reid, Emily Forbes, Shelbi Pingry and Rachel Duff.

Jazzercise performed last year at the Staples Center during the halftime show, and was honored to be asked backed this year. The Staples Center, in conjunction with Jazzercise, was asked to select the best of the best to be in this performance.

Many months ago rehearsals for this halftime show were taking place in gyms and workout centers all over California. The task of getting 300 Jazzercise Instructors and students to learn one five-minute routine was a challenge.

The choreographed routine was comprised of a range of dance techniques from hip hop to jazz. The music was made up of three different songs from several popular artists. These local Jazzercisers headed down the morning of April 29 excited and ready.

Once at the Staples Center, a grueling two-hour practice was required and then the nervous wait to actually get out on the field begin to set in.

The 300 Jazzercisers imploded onto the field with high energy and enthusiasm while fans cheered. The performance rocked the house as the fans screamed for more. After performing, the Tehachapi group joined the fans for the rest of the game.

Jazzercise is the number one fitness dance program in the country. It was founded in 1963 by the current CEO Judi Sheppard Misset. Chris Duff is in charge of the Jazzercise classes in Tehachapi and teaches adult and youth classes through the Tehachapi Valley Parks and Recreation District.
