Tehachapi has taken an early start to the upcoming winter season with a competitive summer league schedule, taking on perennial Southern Section powers in the Antelope Valley at the annual summer league Rosamond Tournament.

The Lady Warriors opened the competition with a fast start against Eastside-Lancaster, opening the contest with a 12-3 run. Paige Bennett opened up the scoring in the contest with a three-pointer, finishing the game with a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Other high scorers against Eastside included Alyssa Cowee and Hannah Ricker, who both had 12 points apiece.

“There is a lot we need to work on but it’s good to get out as a team and improve,” said head coach Mark Bennett. “We have players from all levels getting work in, playing against some of the area’s best and learning the system.”

Student athletes that have competed for Tehachapi during summer league play include Persephonie Devereaux, Kayley Duxbury, Mackenzie Eberle, Rachel Duff, Tori Owens, Marilyn Gonzalez, Haley Hall, Paige Bennett, Alyssa Cowee, AJ Snider, Hannah Ricker, and upcoming freshmen Alexis Schoenberg and Jade Delgadillo.

“The time we spend working now will benefit us in the future,” added Bennett. “We have a very talented group and getting this work in over the summer can only help us.”

The Lady Warriors will next be in action this Tuesday (July 7) against Antelope Valley and next Tuesday (July 14) against Mojave. Both games will start at 7 p.m. at Rosamond High School.
