The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has added new online services for increased convenience by expanding its internet online appointment system. Customers can now book their driving test appointments or schedule as many as three separate transactions for three different persons at once through the DMV’s Web page (www.dmv.ca.gov).
“DMV has embraced Governor Schwarzenegger’s challenge to ‘Drive Change’ by utilizing 21st century technology to improve customer service and convenience,” said DMV director George Valverde. “With the cost of gasoline continuing to soar, these new features will be welcomed by millions of Californians, helping to save time and money by eliminating a trip to a DMV office.”
Before the expansion of the internet online appointment system went into effect on May 2, customers had to call or visit a field office if they needed to make a class C or motorcycle driving test appointment or to make multiple driver license, identification card and vehicle registration service appointments. The new features allow those same customers to go online 24 hours a day, seven days a week, select the field office and appointment time of their choice and schedule it.
For security reasons and to ensure that the customer is eligible for a drive test, the system will require a valid permit number and date of birth before a behind-the-wheel test appointment is confirmed. The same information will be required if someone wishes to cancel an appointment.
The enhancements will be of special interest to parents of teenagers who would like to make other DMV transactions while their son or daughter is taking a drive test for their provisional driver license. Those parents can now go online and make the drive test appointment plus up to two more simultaneous appointments for themselves or any other family member.
“The next time you need to do business with the DMV, think first of visiting our website,” said Director Valverde. “It provides 24-hour access and the choice of taking care of business when you want to. We believe this is a great step towards providing the best and most convenient customer service to Californians.”
