As part of the Tehachapi Unified School District’s strong push for increased attendance throughout its school sites, several schools have risen to the challenge and take daily attendance at school very seriously.
In fact, the school district awards an attendance trophy each month to the school with the highest percentage of daily attendance to encourage student participation.
To increase students’ awareness, some local school administrators offer incentives if their school wins the coveted trophy.
At a recent Friday flag ceremony, Cummings Valley School Principal David Spencer offered a much-anticipated incentive for his school winning the award for April: he appeared in a lovely women’s dress, hat and pearls, to the great delight of all in attendance.
