It is so peaceful this early Saturday morning: the birds are having choir practice, there's just a slight breeze to move the spring-green leaves and grass, more desert weeds than grass, if truth be told. I just saw “my” three deer, a doe and her two half-grown fawns, grazing along the path that has been a deer run for probably centuries and at least for the several years that I have lived here near Mountain Park.

There's not a bulldozer roar nor the snarl of a huge truck delivering half of a pre-put-together house anywhere within ear shot.

I haven't heard the wailing cry of a siren denoting disaster from either Highline nor Valley Boulevard.

It's too early for the weed-eaters and riding lawn mowers, so there isn't the stench of gasoline polluting the sweet mountain air.

It's like the little town we moved to some 15 years ago.

Thanks, God, for an early weekend morning in Tehachapi.

We moved here 16 years ago for the peace and contentment that you mentioned. We moved into town, for the feel of small town living and to minimize the need for a car. I use to enjoy an afternoon walk to the store or local coffee shop, but now, there is much more traffic, noise, car pollution etc. It's not as peaceful. Nor as safe. Now the City is proposing a Motorcross Park in the City limits. I fear what this constant noise of these high pitched engines and the air pollution created by these machines will do to our downtown area. The occasional car driving by with rumbling pipes or acid rock music is nerve shattering, but at least it is only for a few seconds. Having a designated motorcycle park will bring hundreds of these machines to our community along with all their noise for several hours a day, if not all day long. The sound of these motorcycles carry a long way in the breeze. Tehachapi is too small of a community to have such a noisy business.

I would much rather see a motocross park come in here than have those kids ripping around on city streets and private property. I think it would be a constructive activity for youth and adults in a safe, structured environment. As for noise, hello! We have God knows how many trains coming through here every day to contribute to that (as well as the pollution factor) to drown out the noise of most everything else. If you choose to live in town, that's just what you deal with. Do you honestly think a few motorcycles are going to be worse than that or make that much more pollution? If I were you, I'd be much more concerned about what's coming out of the heavy truck and vehicle traffic, not to mention the tire particulate and road dust that comes up off the road every time anything drives by. That's what I call pollution!

Dear Neighbor: What a perfect pictorial of what we've all come to love about Tehachapi. God bless America and Tehachapi.
