Wisdom of the week: Some people believe that holding on and hanging in there are signs of great strength. However, there are times when it takes much more strength to know when to let go and then do it.
— Ann Landers

Dear C.C.: My folks want me to get a job this summer but I’m going to be a senior in high school next year and this is my last summer to play. What can I say to them?

Dear Senior to Be: Life starts now. Work can and should bring satisfaction to life. It will take time, but you are now learning how to balance work and play. Now is a great time to start: while you’re still at home and not having to be entirely on your own.

Dear C.C.: Our favorite niece is graduating form a mid-western college. The whole family is planning on being there. However, my husband’s boss says that my he cannot let my husband have the time off so we can attend. How much pressure can we put on his boss to let him have the time off?

Dear Wondering: Is it possible for you to look at the fact that your husband has a job as a positive thing? Unfortunately, bosses can’t always coordinate their business to coincide with employee vacation requests. You may not know all of the reasons that this may not be the right time to let your husband leave. Could you consider attending as your family representative? Suggest that your husband call your niece. Tell her how disappointed he is, how proud of her he is and how much he loves her. Your husband may be more important to the business than you realize.

Dear C.C.: One of our close friends has had to relocate twice in the last year because of employment. They seem to be handling it well but it would be hard for me to do so. Am I too set in my ways?

Dear Concerned: Change seems to be difficult for most of us. It moves us from our comfort zone and set ways. However, Deepak Chopra consistently states it is the known that we should fear. The unknown, he insists, has infinite possibilities just waiting for us. Sounds like your friends are willing to use change to improve their lives.
