On Saturday, Sept. 5 an "Old Fashioned Republican Rally" was held in support of Assemblyman Chuck Devore. Devore, a self-proclaimed common sense conservative, hopes to win U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer's seat in 2010.

"Barbara Boxer has not served the state well," Devore said. "It is a good time to get people to think critically about what she has and hasn't done for the state."

Devore, born in Seattle in 1962, moved to Mammoth Lakes with his father when he was a young boy. He attended Mammoth High School, where he played football and basketball.

Devore always had an interest in politics while he was growing up.

"I read the Wall Street Journal at 12 years old," he said.

In 1983, at the age of 20, Devore enlisted in the United States Army Reserve. After serving for more than 24 years, he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.

From 1986 to 1988, he served as Special Assistant for Foreign Affairs under President Ronald Reagan. In 1988, he worked as Director of Public Liaison for former Congressman Chris Cox's first campaign.

"He impresses me as a person," said Phil Wyman, former United States Senator. "He is highly qualified and has impeccable credentials. He remembers the roots of our party."

Devore has his own website, www.chuckdevore.com, which he ran himself from 2003-2007. He is also employing the use of the social networking sites Twitter and Facebook to get the word out about his campaign.

Devore's presence at the rally marked his 131st public appearance. He is enjoying the campaign process.

"I am having a ball," he said.

Devore currently resides in Irvine with his wife of 20 years, Diane, and their two daughters, Jennie, 17, and Amy, 12.
