A memorial funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 31, at 2 p.m. at Wood Family Funeral Service for Evelyn R. Martin, 83, who passed away in Tehachapi on May 22.
Evelyn was born to her parents, Charles and Nora Nuite, on Sept. 5, 1922, in Flint, Mich. In 1944, she married the love of her life, John David Martin in Flint, Mich. They later moved to the Los Angeles area where they resided until his death in 1991.
Evelyn was always a hard worker and for a time she helped out in her niece’s beauty salon, which was something Evelyn really enjoyed.
She was such a lovely lady inside and out and will long be remembered for her kindness.
Evelyn never had children of her own, but was always surrounded by nephews and nieces. She was everyone’s favorite “Auntie.” She was so much fun to be with that her home was always full.
Evelyn was kind and generous, almost to a fault, and never turned away anyone in need. The positive influence she had on others will be her enduring legacy.
In 1993, Evelyn moved to Tehachapi to be near her special nephew and his wife, David and Cheri Hadley. As always, she found joy in her surroundings and added a touch of charm and beauty to the community.
She once again took on the role of caregiver by caring for her brother, Darwood Nuite, until his passing in 1999.
Evelyn was a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church for several years as well as the parish Catholic Daughters. She will be remembered with a smile by those who knew and loved her for the truly lovely lady she was.
Evelyn is survived by her nephew, David Hadley and wife Cheri of Bear Valley Springs; niece, Joyce Dench of Chino; nephew, Eugene Dixon of Farmington, N.M.; and numerous other nieces and nephews in New Mexico, Michigan, Arizona and Southern California.
Pastor Moe Cramer of the Stallion Springs Community Church officiated at the service. Randy and Bea Grounds of Snow White Dove performed a musical tribute to Evelyn. After cremation, interment will be in the Tehachapi Public Cemetery, Westside.
Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements.
