The Horseman’s Association also is sponsoring a North American Trail Ride Conference (NATRC) competitive trail ride Aug. 25 to 27. Competitive trail riding emphasizes the ability to care for a horse during and after a long day on the trail. All horses receive a soundness exam on Friday and horses are monitored throughout the ride for any metabolic or soundness changes.
There will be a one-day ride for the novice, who will be timed at a steady walk. Open division will ride both Saturday and Sunday and will be timed faster. There’s also a distance-only division that rides without competing. BVS Equestrian Center has a campground for travelers.
For more information, call Pam Miller at 821-2130, send email to pam@bvsprings.com or call Peggy Bergman Smith at 821-9019, send email to bvsrider@sbcglobal.net/.
